applied to individual drums, i.e. kick or snare , or applied to the whole drum pattern as a whole? any idea what da amount section under swing does ?

or each pad, or a group of them, at least on the 3000 & upgraded 60 (not sure about the stock 60)

the percentage changes the amount of change.

depends on your beat, I've done whole beats and different sections, and just some sounds.

just f*ck around with it.

Whenever I change the swing on one track, it seems to apply to all the tracks in that sequence. Is there anyway to prevent that. This is on the MPC 2000XL.

are there some common songs that have used swing that anyone could provide examples of? If at all possible what would you compare the use of swing to musically? Would it be like the natural "swing" that is commonly referenced in a lot of jazz?

don't apply the swing to all events in the track, hit a pad and then apply it, it should only affect that pad.

at least on the upgraded 60 & 3000, I'd be surprised if the 2000xl didn't.

What I'm saying is that I'll change to swing to like 56% on one track (let's say the track with my kick). Then I'll go to another track to lace my snare, and let's say I decide that I want to add some swing to that also, I'll see that the swing is at 56% for that track also. Get me?

In which screen would I do this? So, you're saying I could highlight a pad and select "only" that pad for the swing change. I might be wrong, but it looks like you can't do that on the 2000XL. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

It says that because its the last setting you left it at. It doesn't apply it to any track you don't record on. You have to actually record something on a track for it to take effect. For example. say i do my kick at 56% on track 9, record it. Now you go to say, track 5 for a snare, go change the parameter in the swing to 60%. Now record on track 5 your snares. Each individual track will have whatever quantizing you recorded with it.

cool

what if i record my snares (let say track 2) on 54%

i hit the over dub button on the tracks and dub-record it (and set the swing to 56%) will it affect it?

that way you can change the swing of a already recorded track

it affects only what you record, if you overdub, those sounds that were already quanitized, will stay at the quanitze you put them at, the new overdub will be what swing % you put it at.

I don't know about the 2k, but I'd be surprised if it didn't.

whatever quantie setting you leave in the timing correct screen is what all events will be recorded with (on upgraded 60 & 3k)

on my 2k (non XL) you can definately apply swing to individual notes that are already sequenced. it isnt only applied to notes recorded after you set the swing amount.
