Hello

I'm using mpc with protools thru midi.

but whenever i try to record the drums from mpc to protools, there's a slight timing issue.

I use midi clock to trigger the mpc.

direct audio recording, midi notes recording are both having the timing issues

motif, m3, radias has no problem with it so I think some setting is wrong in my mpc.

n e one has a solution fo this?

and if there's not, switching to the jj os will help this problem?

turn quantize off on the mpc and see if that helps. i dont know if the specific midi setup you have is limited because i am trying to find out for myself.

you can recored midi notes as direct audio? i think even if you can it is still quantized at 96 ppqn (the resolution for the mpc when quantized is truned off). Can some confirm is this is correct?

Depending on how you have it set up, make sure that your TEMPOS MATCH, Also what I do is put everything together in song mode and insert an empty Sequence at the beginning of each song, Giving protools time to sync up. (works for me)

Hey Blasco...

Here's a suggestion for you...

In Pro Tools...Go to:

Setup, then select 'Playback Engine'.

Under this menu, you'll see the H/W (HardWare) Buffer Size. select the Smallest Buffer (usually Measured in samples) it offers you. Prolly be about 128.

This should clear up any weird timing anomolies you may experience with 'recorded' audio to PT from your MPC.

General rule of thumb with PT (& as regards to MPC) that I've found very useful:

1) When 'Recording' or 'Tracking' out to P from MPC...use the LOWEST H/W buffer value avalaible...this way, PT is working too hard and is therfore left to concentrate CPU power to enabling accurate timing.

2) When 'Editing' in PT...(MPC no longer in the frame), then select as High a buffer value as is possible...CPU will need it, especially with any processor intensive mixes you may intend working on I.e...ones with lots of plug ins running etc.

Try it out, let us know how you get on.

I just tried with H/W buffer size 32 samples.

It got much better but there's still a latency exists.
the kick drum was starting at 1l1l075. but now it's starting at 1l1l013.

also I recognized that all of my equipments has a little bit of latencys.
for example, the kick drums from Korg M3 starts at 1l1l006 or 1l1l008. either numbers.

one mo question,

are little bit of latencys are unavoidable in midi environment?

One more thing that I forgot, in your routing chain cancel out the bus signal, for example: I have S/pdif L-R (Going in), Analog 1-2 (out) It works for me and I have no latency at all (at least not that I can tell). You all ways want to run your chain the shortest distant possibe (eliminating your Bus/AUX Channels) while you are recording, Once you get done recording all of your tracks you can throw your Bus/AUX channels back into the chain. and do your mixdown, during your mixdown your midi timing will not matter because you are playing everything from pro tools and not the original source! Hope this helps

What OS are you running for your 2500? The newest update has a bug fix for this...so it may or may not work for you. The synch on the 2500 is pain in the ass for sure!
