CD TEAC HELP

Thanks for the help 1ABGood2 it worked like a champ. Now all I need to do is buy an HDD.

Wrong Model.

I got a DW224-E from ebay and removed the appropriate pin (47). If you want to find our how the pins are numbered the your best bet is to look at the schematics for this model.

You have the internet remember? Enough of me being pseudo-elitist.

I have to chip away at the top of the bezel so it don't look exactly neat - but it opens! It works and it is reading data from disks. I haven't tried the burning issues of the day yet but I cant be bothered at the moment.

Hello i evreybody,

i just got a CD 224 E. Can't see nothin even when i unplugged the hdd
Is it only the DVD/CD combo that is working?

2 Questions...

i) I've got a Teac DW-224E drive. The prefix is -RTT. This should work with the mod, right?

ii) Can someone help me locate Pin 47 to make the drive function as a slave?

Answers to my own questions (in case they will help anyone else):

i) Yes, -RTT drives work. I guess the suffix is irrelevant as long as it's a DW 224E.

ii) As mentioned before, to find Pin 47... hold the drive upright an look at the internal set of pins (the ones facing each other). The second from the left on the top is Pin 47.

Can't believe it, but my drive is finally writing and reading.

I just installed a Teac drive with pin 47 pushed in, into my new 2500 and all went well. One thing i noticed though is that the cd drive does not go all the way into the unit, as in it does not sit flush with the black front panel. It sticks out about 2 or 3 mm which does not effect its use but is kind of annoying to look at.
has any one esle experienced this with the teac drives?

I got the drive on ebay for £20 incl. delivery.

There's a slight (1mm) overhang from the front MPC panel as mentioned in another post above, but I think it looks ok.

I think i have found the proper drive for updating the mpc 2500 please let me know if this one will work as well.

It may work ok, but the bezel or drive cover (whatever you call it!) looks like it may not fit well when it's installed in your MPC. Try and look for a TEAC DW-224E-BP3 and that will fit pretty good, in fact it looks exactly like the Akai drive. The one in my pics above has now been replaced by the BP3 model and it's a great fit, looks exactly like it's factory fitted. I sold the other one to my friend for his 2500. Hope this helps you out.

Just fitted an UNMODIFIED TEAC drive to my 2500 with HDD and it's working so far...

Not fully tested, only checked it'd recognise it and playback from CD so far.

It would be a perfect flush fit if the bezel wasn't a millimeter or so out on the left hand side.

The drive I used was NOS Toshiba original service parts
Part No. V000021230

There was another sticker on the box with a diff part no tho: V000021060 and seems to have been for a TOSH DVD-Super Multi-UJ Tecra S1

1. installed the cd drive and it is working fully as in both reading and writing?

2. aswell as having the cd drive perfectly fitted and flush with the front panel? ( no need to replace the bezel or modify the bezel in any way)

i don't mean to be a pain but if anybody has installed a drive that ticks both of the above boxes can you please give the the EXACT TEAC DW224E model number as in "TEAC DW224E BP3" etc... or even a link to where you bought it? i have tried e-bay and i'm sure the drives will work but its a straight gamble as to whether or not it will fit properly. i looked for the "BP3" model northern elite suggested but the only one of that i can find comes connected with a pcb adapter, unless it can be removed i don't know...

if anybody helps me out it would be greatly appreciated, i will send you some drum kits for your trouble if need be!

*EDIT!!!*** -> sorry homies its cool.. after a bit more research i found out that the BP3 model from ebay should work beacuse the pcb adapter is apparently easily removed. i'm gonna cop it. lets hope it works!

Grab the BP3 if you can get one - The PCB adapter unscrews and it slots into the 2500 perfectly - I got my one from Ebay for £30 and it had that adapter on it also. Big saving from Akai's £140 though!!!
