its a neat plugin that chops wavs nondestructively and lays them out on the keyboard/pads.

i demoed phatmatik and found it really buggy...which SUCKS because it looks ideal for what i'm looking for...

Nym, I tried Phatmatik, also found it buggy! A combination of Recycle Phatmatik would be a dream.

yeah for pete's sake phatmatik would be a dream come true if it worked as specified. you'd find me moving my lead sample from mpc to phatmatik for more improved mangling capabilities

that'd be a bittersweet day for me but i guess it ain't happening anytime soon

i guess i have to face facts - there's no software catered to my style/needs out there right now...some apps get close but none as close as jjos2...

all i'm missing from jjos2 is to be able to crossfade the sample loop to smooth out clicks on stereo samples and that'd hold me over til i truly kill my polyphony

get a mac with logic 8, phatmatik & crossfade loop synth from expert sleeprs. Don't forget to get Snapper too

mac isn't an option unfortunately...that means I'M the expert sleeper, cuz that program looks nice....

That about sums it up, for all samplists. I tried for 5 years to find a good workflow in software after dumping my ASR for a Mac and Logic. I finally had had enough, and got back into hardware sampling.

However I did use pHATmatik pro since the day it was released, and all the bugs were taken care of very early. Its been extremely stable for me, but mind you I'm on a Mac. Before they removed the capability from Battery, I used to option drag my chops directly from pHAT to Battery. Now that was about as sweet as it could get!

Haven't ever properly investigated but I think NI Kontakt has some good beatslicing functions now

Yeah it does, but beatslicing is only a subset of sample chopping. For example, how do you make three 2-second samples from one five second sample in a beatslicer? Or how do you autoslice a sample with no transients?

And kontakt's beatslicing tools aren't very user friendly to me.

What I mean is that Phatmatik Pro runs very smoothly under Leopard OSX.

If you want to do fast audio editing, you'll want a scroll wheel on your mouse which moves horizontal too. Vertical-only is so 90's

hahah, i agree - i like using a key modifier (alt or ctrl) to set the "other" zoom: normal scroll on mouse = horizontal zoom, ctrl-scroll= vertical zoom.

but a physical horizontal scroll wheel on a mouse? seems like a difficult hand gesture, doesn't it?
i'd like 3 scrolls, one in the middle, and one for my thumb/small finger.

though i must edit to say - i really like those mac mice with the omnidirectional scroll. those things are nice.

I've been Mac for 7 years, and I have to say I've always hated Mac mice. I just cannot get along with that new mighty mouse at all. Right clicking especially is horrible.
I always use my simple 2 button plus scroll wheel wireless Logitech

no, 99% of the time i agree w/ you on mac mice. i just like that omnidirectional scroll wheel, that needs to be implemented in proper PC mice. as i've said though, it's an outright CRIME that mice don't have 5 buttons

the whole "mouse" concept is horrible for most things that they're used for when hotkeys/rotary encoder do the job so much better...especially for midi sequencing...the mouse just slows your ass down...

The new Mighty Mouse™ is excellent. You just need to get used to the right-clicker. The little scroll wheel is very easy to work with. A Mighty Mouse™ has 4 buttons + a 360˚ scroller.
