i just got back from guitar center, this machine feels great i was on it for about an hour. its smaller than i thought - i think its about the size of the MV8800

does anyone know if JJ is going to be making an OS for it?

i actually just had a lot of fun on it, im using the 1000 with jjos 2, so i brought a cf card with some beats on it, just to see if i could load some programs onto the 5k.

well they loaded but something about the parameters of jjos2 made it incompatible, but i still had the samples and went through the tedious manual programming on the akai os (not sure if there is a newer faster way to program)

the pads felt good, the screen size and color is dope - im satisfied with how the thing is built, and i completely forgot to mess around with the built in synth on it!
ill have to go back.

ive been lusting after this thing for a while, but id rather wait to see if anyone comes across problems like bugged OS, tech or mechanical problems given akais history with the 1k.

for now im sticking with the 1k maybe getting a 25k mainly cuz jjos2 does all i need for now

tell me more about this, out of curiosity. when i read the manual i saw absolutely no mention of any way to bulk assign/bulk change parameters - in short, no GPE (global program/parameter edit)

realizing that there are 20+ parameters to change PER PAD on the mpc5000, how did it feel? granted you were only there for an hour and just had some oneshots from a cf card

but let's say you recorded/chopped a sample, 45 slices
and you wanted to adjust the, oh let's say filter for each one of those slices
can you only do that one at a time?

What do you people think? That JJ can walk into an Akai's office and say: "hey, give me the 5k OS so I can make money with it" for his own benefits?
And then Akai employees will hand over the OS with a smile and bow deeply for him?

Get real please...

I got a couple stores here in the NY area that are going to call me when the MPC5000 is set up in their store. I will confirm this for you. Do any beta testers want to chime in? SCD? Kday? Akai UK?

release a high end audio "workstation" without the ability to edit multiple pad parameters at once?
...right back atcha.

I like playing tennis :D but maybe you should read the manual a bit better before playing on a court? :? It is possible to edit the most important pad parameters for all pads at once.

Thank you. That is a feature I'm really looking forward to using. I could of sworn the manual didn't specify this (I even ran word searches on the pdf file). I'm going to analyze that manual a little more closely.

i also searched the manual
perhaps it was an addendum for when the name of this device was "upgraded"
well, good for yall - never too late to start taking hints.

the question is what pad parameters have your programmers deemed worthy of global control?

Well, it might not be what you expected, but you can assign a Q link controller to frequency, tune, attack, decay, release, pan, resonance, level and FX send.
Benefit is that you can do it realtime and even record your movements.

One of the major selling points for me is the generous amount of Qlinks and how the menus work hand in hand with them, but we are wondering whether there is a way to adjust parameters for a group of sounds within a program at the same time. If you slice up a sample in to 16 regions (or more) and let's say you want to apply the same ADSR settings on each slice/pad, it can be a little monotonous on the sixteenth time. We just want to know if this unit's OS offers a way to automate that process.

No, that is not possible. But I could enter it as a feature request in the bugtracker. Actually done that now.

oh, it's possible...and necessary.

program parameter control was what was being discussed, not qlink control of program (which is no new news for mpcs, btw, i've been on that QLINKTRACK tip since 2006)

so program building in the 5000 is still a 1 pad at a time thing. what a shame! chopping a 16+ slice wav, and then having to INDIVIDUALLY set 20+ program parameters per pad?? 32 equal slices that you want to apply the same ADSR settings to, one at a time?

yow. that reminds me of my 1k back in 2005.
i wonder how long the 5000's data wheel encoder will last with all that unnecessary mileage...
