okay i havent used my mpc in about two weeks. i keep it covered adn away from anything that could drop on it or get hit by anything. i actually unplugged it put it in it's carrying case and moved it up on my dresser. Well last night i plugged it in, and fired her up. I went to load, picked my program adn the pads were workiing fine. Then i record a sample into it. I wanted to trim, so i press my shift and trim button, and nothing. It didnt work at all. So I'm like damn. I save the sample real quick, and turn the whole mpc off. I turn it back on, load my sample assign to pad, then I cursor down and go to drum 2. Back to load and load a program up again. Okay. Now i Try trim again, nopthing. SO then I'm like okay I'll got to program and i can cut some of the sound down there , but that program button didnt work either so i'm like **** it, i wont even use a sample now. I thought maybe my shit was overheating because it was mad hot the last couple of days or something. So i set my tempo, and bars as usual, then go to hit record and play and it started. i was like yeah alright i can ata least make a loop and use midi and all that shit. BUt now the stop button doesnt work and I couldnt get it out of record. It just stopped working after I hit it a minute before.

well thats what happened last night. can anyone shed any light on this? I have had this mpc for almost two years. I wish I had never gotten rid of my 1000. At least that thing always worked no matter what. Do you think my ram came unseated? Or perhaps something came loose? I am gonna be opening it up later on when i get home. Went to a friends house since my internet is down at my house. A tree fell on some resistor box or some lame shit. But any help is appreciated

Thanks to all and everyone

You need a few contact switches replaced. No big deal. If you wanna destroy the thing, do yourself a favor and just send it to me. I'll pay shipping.

Yeah that was my initial thought as well, but then it is unusual that several would go bad at once (or is it?).
I don't know, could be something like the ram has unseated, check that out when you open it up, but it if it is just tact switches, then, as taxman said, that's not a big deal.
What I've done in the past is open up the MPC, remove the offending buttons, switch on the MPC then press down on the bare tact switches with a screwdriver. You might have to press hard to get them to work. I've 'massaged' some of them back to life doing this.

i am in no way going to destroy the thing. i figured out how they got damaged. i tokk it off my desk and put it in the carrying case i have, and put it in my trunk. well my mic stand is in my trunk. i went over a speed bump and the thing rlled right into my mpc. so i know thats how is got ruined. i will oreder all new tact switches or send it to vst. does anyone know ( Guesstimation_ of about how much you think they will charge me? any answers will make my day better. i feel like family member died

lets see. its the trim button, stop, rec overdub, f3, and progr4am button. i am still gonna get the 1000 and put the jjos on it. i just got approved for a 2500 loan. so i am gonna pay off my citibank card, and go get me a 1000 and an interface. then with my stiulus check, i will get the 2kxl fixed and sell it to my homie. or i might just wait. i used to have a 1000, but the pads were going bad and th eoutputs were staticy, so i sold that shit to some guy in canada for like 650. then dude sold it for 750, so at least he made a profit. but i want that new black one with the new pads and the jjos with a nice hard drive. then an interface like the m-audio firewire 1814 so i can still use pt m-powered. word. but i have had nothing but problems witht his mpc 2kxl, so i think it's time i passed the torch on.
