Hello all. First post. Came across the site a while back, and been reading up for a while but never posted cause I didn't own any mpc to talk about.
Just got a MPC2500 yesterday. Got it fully loaded from the get go with a 120gb HD.
Originally I was wanting to get a 5000, but couldn't wait any longer, and from my understanding the jjos covers a lot of advanced features, and the only other difference I noticed, besides the obvious hardware differences, was recording to the HD, (which I sure can be implemented into the 2500 since it has an HD in it!) built in synth and more effects, which do not appeal to what my style of production is (going to be), which is mainly sample based of natural instrumentations. If you know what I'm saying, don't twist it into something it's not.
What I'm saying is that I just don't see myself playing around (using) the synthesizer or the delays, and modulations or arpeggiator to get some grooves going. I'll be using my samples and my mind!
Using those methods seems too fake and synthetic, for hip hop. We've had that stuff from the beginning, but never used it.. for a reason! I'm talkin that premo, pete rock, dilla, and all similar style producers of today. Ain't no arpeggiated synths in that!! Anything arpeggiated is gonna sound techno, to me at least.
I only see it popping off maybe Down South for their style. Since it's so synth based and can become hypnotic, which is good for the club, and I like it in there, better than house/techno. But I'm from the East Coast and I do not seeing it fit the classic style. Maybe we could adopt it somehow, but I don't always want that synth attatched to the MPC, you know what I'm saying? Plus my very first Impression of it was that it's ugly! Someone's always got a Fantom, Motif or Triton in their crib for that, or something in the studio everywhere I go.
This seems to me that it was targeted at dance/techno/house/rave/dnb producers. Specially since it's developed in England (correct me if I'm wrong) and I know that kind of music is huge over there, every rave I've gone to it's always moslty dj's from England!
So as a potential maker of hip hop, rap, rnb, and potentially reggae beats (i happen to not be one, but a lot of Jamaican affiliates in my hood, and I'm constanly at the patty shop eating stew chicken, oxtail and all that, and smoking ganja hourly) I am happy to say that I am pleased with my purchase of the MPC2500
