Yeah I'm a longtime Ableton Live user as well since version 4. It took me a while to get the hang of how to use it but it was well worth it... One of the dopest programs to come out in a longtime I'll post some tips a bit later.

i had live for a while but couldn't get the hang of it so i just left it alone. after reading the posts about it i gave it another try and after about 45 minutes of getting familiar with it i kicked myself because i can get done with my beats so much faster now. live sync's with my 2500 flawlessly and
that beat repeat effect is one of the sickest things in live imo.

After I sampled v4, right there I decided never to touch anythin lesser.
The work flow is just truly amazing, especially with rewire clients like
Reason, FL etc, and the VST support is just awesome.
I use LinnPlug RMIV/Battery 3 Drum VSTi's & NI Kontakt 2(Sampler) with it. The step sequencer on the MPC 1000 etc's is just too tedious.
Live has a close correlation with the workflow of an MPC, so I just use
the MPC for Drums/Basslines & as a MIDI triggering device for LIVE.

This is it.

Love Live. Been with it since v2. I use it with my analog synths, MPC500, and another app called Numerology.

Numerology is pretty trick. It's a series of different sequencers to generate MIDI. It lets you mix different MIDI signals and control parameters on soft synths. Can get very deep and weird, if you spend some time with it.

i been using since version 3, took me a while to hit it full time, but ever since version 5 i havent used any other software sequencer apart from abez.

jj'd mpc1000, waldorf xt & lappy with ableton, my ultimate live rig.
