I was wondering the same thing too. It would be nice if you could easily remove the side panels to add some wood grain.
I believe these past few MPCs were all made in Taiwan. I was beginning to believe that the MPC 5000 was completely made and programmed in the US. There is no mention of the Akai MPC 5000 on the Japanese Akai site.
Yes, The side panels can be removed if you wish.
