Is there an easier way to do this to get perfect pitches of pitch shifting samples?
Dude if you want to get chromatic pitch just open the sample in keygroup programs that is what it is made for!!!
But the catch is that you need to now the pitch of your sample to assign it right in a keyspan and the root note. Also one sample is not enough to cover a full 88 keyboard you will need about 7 to 8 additional samples to properly map the samples over the keyboard.
However if you just want to stay within an octave like the traditional mpcs 16 levels pitch load the sample in C3 set the low keyrange to C2 and the upper keyrange to C3 to get that RZA effects.
Or you can do it the way you thought make a zillion copies of the sample up them on different pads and tune each sample to different pitches as you wish. But like I said previous a sample can only be pitch a few semitones before it sounds unnatural that is why you need several samples at various pitches.
Understand you are using real sounds not synth sounds.
P.S. read the manual too.
