I know the 5000 can record midi like form a keyboard and then turn it into audio with the hard drive, but can the 4000 do this too? does it not have any audio boards to do this? this makes it so u dont have to track it out into a daw to get audio. thanks

All mpcs record midi from a keyboard controller cuz all mpcs are midi sequencers sending the info to the sampler engines. However the 2500 and 5000 can record audio tracks on a hd. The 4000 doesn`t have hd recording of audio tracks like the 5000 and 2500.

For the 4k you can resample you song as a long sample on your ram usually up to 512 and transfer to your computer to record to CD via Aksys. Now this is more than you are asking so the 5000 may be the ticket for you if coming from 2xl or 1k.

Download the manual next time for both machines and read.
