New to mpc's

Ok I was wondering what do you need to start making beats and all that good stuff. Because my friend makes beats on software and I he taught me a little now I want to do the same thing but on mpcs. I know this question has proboly been asked a million times but I just want to know. My price range is 2,500 but I want to keep it cheap. please someone help.
