setting up your drums

Do u guys have one program for just your kicks ,then another program for your hats and then another for your snares?Or do u just have them all mixed together?Problem with me is when i have them mixed together i have a better rythm but i feel all disorganized.When i have my own programs they feel all organized but i don't feel and smooth as having them all mixed because i have a better feel for the drum pattern..This question is mostly for the hardware ppl i guess

I use a single program for all my drums. To stop feel disorganised why don't you stick to a set layout for all your drum programs? I go with my kicks on the bottom row, hats on 2nd row, snares on 3rd row and toms or percussion on the top row. Obviously I can use other banks too if I run out of pads.

Different tracks doesn't mean you need different Programs for each.

Good point stilo, I have my kicks, snares and hats on separate tracks, but the same program.

ya i keep my kicks snares claps hi-hats crashes and stuff in one program(but i have different "drum kits") just to have it all there and not have lots of programs opened up with just kicks and another for snares and etc. But i think its just a matter of what you feel more organized and comfortable with. I have thought of doing it the way your talking about but sometimes i just like to play around with the beat and just be able to play it instead of laying track by track just so i have an idea of what im gonna do.

I have programs that are all one type of drum..like a program for kicks, a program for snares, hats, cymbals, percusion, toms.

So once I lay my chops down, and its time to put the drums down, say i wanna choose the kick first...

I load my kick program, find what kick/s I want on the track and then in a new program i lay them on the pads. Now on the program window select the kick program and hit open window and delete program.

Then hit purge and then you just have your kicks that you need. Then I do the same for each drum untill I have a whole new drum kit which I just set my drums up how it is easy for me to play.

Its kind of a tedious process but it keeps me organized. Also ive thought about making kits and saving sounds out of the diff programs that sound good together and then I can just load it up at any time but ima wait till i have more sounds.
