Sequencing Soft Synths & Plugins on the 1000 - LIVE!

Hi. I have a 2k and its hooked up to logic and my korg keyboard. I can sequence 16 channels of plugins from the comp and 16 channels of sounds from the korg. I want to do something similar to this in my live show. I want to have a load of rhodes plugins, synths basses, leads etc set up in Ableton Live or Logic (depending on what more stable) and then sequence them when im building tracks on stage.

In the studio when i do this i have to select next track, select midi, scroll to the relevant midi channel and MPC output port. This is a bit of a hassle and takes a few seconds too long. Is there any easier way to do this or any suggestion on how i could go about this in a live situation.

Im not sure how to get this all working with live. I could do it in logic but its unstable live and i might want to use live for some live audio looping in sync with the mpc also. . .

Any advice on any of this would be much appreciated. . .

You can set up your softsynths in Live's session view. Assign each a unique midi channel and arm all the tracks. Hit cmd-k (edit key map) and assign a letter to each of the clip slots you want to fill while performing. Then, when you're performing, hit a letter, you'll be recording into that clip slot. Hit that letter again, it starts playing back.

that sounds cool, but i want to do it all from the MPC so i have hands on control over muting parts in and out. I dont want to have another midi controller so i can mute the parts in and out from live whilst also muting parts in and out from the MPC. It starts to get too complicated. . .

In MIDI map, you can do the same thing I described in key map (which maps the computer keyboard, not a midi keyboard). I've never tried it, but I'm sure you can figure it out. (I've gotten it to play loops via the MPC pads, but I've never tried recording loops.) It would definitely be easier than Logic.

ok. . . so if im understanding you, youre saying that i could assign a midi pad to record a loop in ableton live. So does this not mean that ableton needs to be syned 'to' live so that the loop continues playing back in sync aftert the loop has been recorded?

im asking this because i dont know if i need ableton to be synced with Midi Clock or Midi Time Code. If its MTC, then i need to get the JJOS2 before i start making stuff on my new 1000. . .

I don't have any more answers for you because I've never done what you're trying to do. However, I was able to map the keys on my midi controller to clip slots. Hit once to record; hit a second time to stop recording and play back. I'm sure you can do the same thing with an MPC. Mapping MIDI controllers is supere easy in Live. As far as syncing, you'll have to try it and see what works.
