Patch Phrase?

Ok so I've just spent a lot of time making myself familiar with Mr MPC 1000 (several months), and am finally seeing the machine and its
functions in a non newby style way. I have recently dl'd the JJOS 1 and in the grand scheme of things i'm content.
However and this may infuriate some o yu guys, I pose this question:

Patch Phrase???WHy?What do you guys use it 4 in a practical sense, as i'm missing the point on it's usage ?

it's pretty handy when you can get it to work right... but i don't use it too much.

generally i prefer to chop breaks into one hits and sequence them that way...

but once or twice (when i'm running out of polyphony) i'll use patch phrase
to throw a break that's in a different tempo over the top of already sequenced
stuff.

using it on a break like this can be handy when you want retain most of the natural
groove but need to fit it into a different tempo --- i sometimes use it for a live setup
when i'm changing BPM between tracks.

or i like to use it on percussion loops -- this way they are mostly in time, but
still retain the human feel/groove. way better than trying to sequence a good
cabasa pattern with only 2 samples.

but, for me, it's a non-essential function and doesn't get used to much.


experiment with it, see what you can get it to do. if it works for you... that's all that matters.
