MPC4000?

What ever happened to the MPC4000? Is there is specific reason why Akai stopped making them?

Just hard to think through you know... The 4k is the best so why would they stop making them???

I'm not sure whether the components necessary for production became expensive or impossible to find. If memory serves me right this is what I read somewhere.

Intel stopped making the Strongarm processor chip, which is what the 4K uses. Without that chip, well, no 4K.

oh okay.... damn they gotta make something to fill in the spot for the 4k.

they tried, it's 5000 aka 3500

So besides the processor becoming scarce, the European Union also passed anti lead laws
in electronics, which added the 2nd nail to the coffin, as it did with the MV 8000 , which is why Roland
came out with the MV 8800...

Also, most if not all of nuAkai seemed to abhor the 4000 and pretty much never really understood the power
behind it. I think they couldn't ditch it fast enough, but couldn't because they still had stock on hand...
Andy Akai from UK on the 5000 forum, pretty much confirmed this..
