The "new" OS does not change anything physically on the machine as far what you are actually putting your paws on and pressing.


Sampling and editing drums is OK on any machine.

Sampling and attempting to sample multiple samples on a 60/3000 good luck, and I dont mean a horn stab here and there, I mean sampling and chopping shit up.

I would never use a EMAX for that yo, My point is for the hard ass drums just sample the DRUMS on a emax or any 12bit rack for that matter when you can do more editing and tweaking than on a 60/3000. plus it hits harder trust I know.


What takes me 15 minutes to chop on a asr10, takes me 1 hour on the 3000 no lie. (not counting drums )

maybe if the sliders on the 60/3000 would control the values then i can see it. but using the knob and the hard glassy numeric buttons really suck when chopping multiple samples into multiple segments, lord forbid if i screw up along that long road and have to do shit over.

If that's actually true, then ur not using the 3K right w/ or w/o the Vailixi 3.50 OS.

Iam using it right its simple enough. no hidden buttons and no hidden menus.

Chopping on the 3000 with 3.50 is fast and easy...... and fun too!..............


Of course chopping on the asr10 is faster because the data slider moves through the sample with ease for you to pick out parts you like and copy and truncate. Learn how to dial in numbers and work your data wheel on the mpc3000 and you'll chop faster. Plus the real time function is the sh*t! When I sample a long sample in the mpc, I set the play x funtion to play zone, and go straight to the zone start and zone end numbers and begin moving through and copying parts that I want as chops, an when done chopping, assign all my chops to pads............ The 3.50 os was one of the best things I bought in this f*cked up expensive economy we are living in. Peace.......

I like the 60 when I sample from vynil. The emax sounds great when you sample whole beats made on the 60/1000 or whatever. It gives it a nice compressed sound. Sometimes all that 12 bit stuff sounds a bit clunky to me and then I get back on the 1000.

But to be honest, after all, I found out that my sound really never changes much. It's me who's doing it and therefore it sound like me and i find it best now to just get on with it whatever machine, there are so many ways to fxxx up sounds, even lo res mp3 or putting things thru a guitar amp can improve things a lot without having to use expensive kit...

let me ask this..it's not 100% topic-related but i've read the MPC60/SP1200 comparison..By buying the SP12 i get the same sound as in the SP1200? SP1200 is overpriced and i want the 12 just for resampling purposes.Thanks in advance.1

I think you get the same sound. I have a 1200 and an emax and i prefer the emax.

You get the same sound, even a bit better, because the sampling frequency is slightly higher (27,500Hz over 26040Hz), so you get more high's.
The SP12 does not have a built in storage device, but remembers the samples and sequences in memory when you turn the unit off.
You can switch the internal sounds on it too, put in your mostly used drums there (to many that will be 808 sounds, but I don't mess with that). Information on how to do this at the SP1200 forums.

If I was doing beats on computers I think I would have done the drums on the SP12 (5 seconds are enough) and the rest in the computer. That will give you a fun and musical way to lay down your drums which will sound very bangin', and do you artificial computer technics on the rest.

I have recommended the SP12 to computer-beatmakers. The drums is important in Hip Hop (+RnB, and other) and I don't hear a lot of impressive drums from my computer only producing friends.

But since I don't like computers I do it all in the SP1200 or MPC3000.

If the SP12 had a storage device built in I would get it. I think I will get it if I find it cheap. I can have my SP1200 at home and bring the SP12 wherever. I made a couple of beats on the SP1200 yesterday, and some of them had 4,5 seconds of remaining sample time, and I wasn't even trying to save all that space! So 5 seconds is enough to make beats with.

The SP12 Turbo can have an external 5 1/4 drive but that version is also pricey, like it's big brother.

deck with teh 12 you can save directly to the computer and store all your info there. easy way to archive and you save money on disks. check the sp forums for more info. the 12 has a couple features id miss on a 1200.

some peoples ears also aren't as fine tuned as others too... this comes from listening to the radio and nelly i think
then trying to make real hip hop on the MP's or SP's... never rocked a 3000 but i know the 60/S950 is a dope combo
like a 3000 with 12 bit... and the filters are lovely... in my opinion the 60 and sp are where its at anything with less than a min of sample time! makes you work harder for the sound (not really) just doesnt allow you to download millions of crappy drums then ask questions like "how come my drums suck" or "which is better the 60 or the sp... sample loud crunchy dope drums and boom what you have coming out of the mp or sp is dope drums!

I have the 60, sp1200 and the Emax. If I had to give one up to save my life, it would be the sp1200. The Emax 1 sounds absolutely awesome to me and is way more flexible with it's filters, sample rate etc than the sp1200. Hooked up to any mpc ( i actually recommend a newer model so you can midi up the filters on different channels - the 60 can get clogged up very easily doing this - ) it is an absolute pleasure with a fat sound, lots of attitude and fun.
