so... please convince me why to switch over, it is alien to me, i am a fan of doing things live as in not having to press stop unless i have to... i cant find any really good posts concerning switching over... on here or at fp ... please blast away. thanks

yo, the feature list speaks for itself - to me, that's more than adequate reason for why i think someone should switch, and enough has been said and done about the features.

but i'll address this part in full:

i am a fan of doing things live as in not having to press stop unless i have to...

in order to most fully use any editing software no matter where it's found, you're truly gonna have to break this habit unless you're going to record everything from the main screen exclusively. this type of workflow is good if you don't want to edit, like...at all, but starting/stopping/rewinding/starting/listening/stopping is a rapid-fire process that is integral to deep editing to get your complex tracks sounding exactly the way you want them.

the other option is to build a track 1 pad at a time, relying on your timing to correct your mistakes and waiting for the sequencer to come back around before making your change. if it's just a matter of playing/recording pads over a live sequencer, an sp303 is adequate, wouldn't you say?

this isn't to say you can't get quick with your fingers. get good at playing pads, and there will be less deep editing. however, starting/stopping rapidly is something that i've found pretty integral to the mpc in general, even when i was programming everything in step edit. if i didn't want to edit, i'd be working with an sp or better yet Reaper and vsts exclusively. the main strength of os2 and os1 for that matter is its fast, intuitive, painless editing process, most notably Midi Grid Edit.

the piano roll in jjos is the single most comfortable, pleasurable sequencing interface i've encountered in my short life.

i'm sure this response wasn't exactly what you were looking for, but hopefully it does you some good

i've fully gone over to OS2 now.
there are so many things that are improvements

but the main 5 that have sold me on OS2 are:

* audio tracks - much better as you can move the position of the sample - and you get more than os 1

* MGE on the main page - i do all my track copying via this method - work flow is so quick.

* pattern - this is unbeatable for changing just one note into a full blown sequence, in seconds.

* ADSR - much better - can really control the filter and amp shapes

* new mixer (track) easy assignment to various outputs ...

things i don't like:

* only one layer to [instrument] - probably my only main gripe - but this could be there's not enough CPU to do this.

things i'd very much like to see, would be:

* velocity compression, velocity level & transpose on the main page

* option to turn-off realtime pitchshift in the audio through window, and have the option to select a second filter in it's
place giving you a stereo input filter.

* LFO frequency in hertz or beats so you can set the LFO to tempo easily.

* in the effect section being able to set effect settings to beats ie. delay when sync is on select what timing i need - 8 16 16d etc...

* 3 layers in [instrument]

* note duration time in bars & beats

i'm sure there are tons more ... but these i feel would really make a difference.

personally i think there are only plus points, in going over to OS2, whether it's worth the money, is up to the indervidual - if you need the features then it's a win win situation.

Cheers

just try it out and that should be reason enough to switch over

if you try it and can't find any good reason to switch, then you don't need it

there's no one better to convince you than yourself

ive had it since day one pretty much, didnt really want it to replace the awesome OS1, but then got hooked.

its very slinky sounding, with the adsr/filter type and newer interface.... but i would NOT switch ALL my previous OS1 programs over to OS2 'cos they never sounded correct (obvious - given that the prog structure differs considerably) SO i was gonna get deep into it when i finished a massive work project (OS1) for a job.

but i finished like 4 weeks ago, still aint touched it,

MOSTLY 'COS THERE'S ALL THESE BRUTAL BUGS I KEEP READING ABOUT ON MPCFORUMS - BUGS THAT HAD I BEEN UNFORTUNATE/MUG ENOUGH TO EXPERIENCE, I DOUBT I'D EVEN BOTHER WITH THE OS2 AT THIS STAGE - THEY LOOK LIKE REAL FLOW KILLERS.

i'm done with paying 40$ then beta testing, not getting the requested fixes, or additions that seem to depart from my preferred methods of production......blah blah.

its all good first time round as it was when i was fresh on the MPC and JJos1, cos i was honestly excited to be involved in a creative OS build input, yet naive enough to follow the development through painfull bugs that reverse-killed some of my favorite tracks...(remember the 3 types of track mute recording that we all gained then lost?, or the polyphony issues that got half resolved?, thats whats put me off getting involved in the OS2 development. i'd rather wait a year and then get serious, but for now, i just fart about - on the "BETA" OS2 that it clearly is, try to save results that i like, then just hope JJ doesnt wipe any of the features that my best projects were based upon in any future OS2 updates.

i switched 2 month ago and i don't regret it. i didn't experience any 'brutal bugs' not a single crash or bad glitch... yes, there are some things i'd like to change to speed up the workflow and yes, it feels a bit rough and unfinished every now and then but i never thought about going back to os1.
losing my customized metronom-sounds bugs me, i must admit. i don't get used to the build in click sounds anymore...

ok NYM, n Robot , i respect ur opinions, ur both also hardened users, but its often a tricky path to follow the updates (like i used to do), then find that (like i said b4 - and this is the worst of it 4 me.....) that the features that created the fly bits in a new project - get changed and leave ideas in an irreversibly useless state, and the project is then dead or crippled, unusable as they once were.....

and there are LOTS of bugs, u can see in the fixes page on JJ's site!, there will BE lots of bugs, i just cant be bothered with testing for developers anymore, not unless there's a serious response from JJ in terms of putting MY ideas in there to some extent - its a parasitic way to program i've since come to realise.....surely u both agree to some extent? no? anyone? anyone? fry? fry?

but true - i'm sayin all this, while downloading the latest 1.11.

i just get to air my greivances once in a while....and simply will NOT tolerate anymore reversals in OS design, it a waste of my time n efforts.......fingers crossed.

I've bought it but I'm not using it yet. I recently asked JJ which feature he would quickly add but it seems he wants to stabilize the OS and won't add anything for a while. Hope he will at least implement new wanted features and i could switch definitly to OS2.

i think this is where he is at right now & i think this is the right decision. the last few updates have been nothing but squashing one bug after the other. i reported a bug a couple weeks back & a few days later it was fixed. he's got over 200k codespace for new stuff but i think he wants a stable os before he moves forward with some new features.

there was a lot of noise from people (myself included) about the bugs & the beta feel and i think this hurt his sales a bit causing him to raise prices. he already announced straight up on his site that OS2 is not selling as well as he hoped so you know he is sensitive to the criticisms & thus the bug hunt has top priority right now.

can't be easy to be in JJ's shoes. you know the majority of MPC users are just making straight up hip hop. the MPC has a big history with that. yet JJ comes with this new OS that pushes the MPC into whole new directions and opens up all of this new potential to bend & twist samples plus the whole instrument mode thing and the big reaction i see over and over on the forums is "well, why do i need that? i can make beats just fine with OS 1" . i was skeptical myself till i sat down with the OS and started digging into it and then it was "oh SHI...". waaay too much power there to ever go back. i haven't booted up OS 1 for months now.

arebee i think the days of the major show stopping bugs is over. we need you and other people who really push the MPC to stick around in these early days of OS 2. not just to find bugs but to give feedback straight to JJ on things you want implemented. we've all got a greater chance of getting our requests responded to NOW while things are in active development as opposed to later when codespace gets tight.
