I don't know if this has been brought up.. but hey. I have a MPC1000 with JJ OS2 installed. I have been using the JJ OS since the early free version and been upgrading the day a new update is released.

Now I used the Akai OS for a long time, but I feel that even if I had the cash to spend on a MPC5000 I wouldn't get it as long as the only available software is from Akai. I would rather keep my MPC1000 with JJ OS any day of the week because I would always wonder how much more capable a MPC5000 could be.

i can't imagine a more perfect situation. me, my mpc1000 and jj os2.
oh, yes i can: my, my mpc1000, jj os2 and NEW PADS. mine are pretty dead.
but still i wouldn't give it away for a free 5000.

Cosign, i wouldn't have gotten the MPC if I had not previously known there was an upgradeable os to purchase.

same reason, i went from the 2000xl to the 1000, plus its fits in my backpack nicely.

I could Not imagine going back to use akai os with out the jj os work flow.
I like the feel of better control' for sample's and programs on the jj os vs akai

I don't really see the need, right now anyways. He seems to have a great canvas to work with, and I'd hate to see the updates end. Even though now I have more than I use, I love seeing new features added. There is always something new to learn on with JJ. Amen. (It would be fascinating to see what that machine would be like though...)

mpc workflow synced to the daw of your choice!!!

reaper and shortcircuit hold more over for now on the computer tip,
but JJ OS in vst would be unbelievalble!!

jj os vst, with a midi cc slider version of the "data wheel"
with minimal mouse integration (might be nice for qreal/cc copy/paste, but otherwise GTFO)
keys or pads, of course (heck just use the mpc1000 hardware as is as optional controller)
with VERY plain simple graphics ala the current screen, just bigger of course (DOS-style, even)

all this as a VSTi in reaper
this or something similar is just about the only thing that could make me switch main sequencers altogether.

i'm fine with it never happening, but we can always dream.
meanwhile i'm just really bummed that the shortcircuit project is discontinued
i missed my chance to get the whole "jjosaltloop samples don't load in short circuit" issue...

If your MPC 1000 with the JJ OS is everything you need, then there is no reason to look over your shoulder right now. However, the MPC 5000 is still early in the game. There are plans to take it to another level. I would just keep a watchful eye on the MPC 5000 forums for updates.
