I found out about this forum through another dope site, iLLmuZik.com.
I got my MPC 2500 after looking at the posts on this site to see if there was an advantage to using the MPC to make beats compared to using software. I bought one off eBay for $1100 loaded with ram and an 80 gig hard drive. The File Not Found error was something I kept running into and I did read a lot of the threads about it but none of them seemed to have an answer for me. So here is what I came up with.
On my mac, what looks like an .wav file is actually an .aif file.
I use a Black MacBook to transfer sounds to my MPC through the USB connection. I made a few basic kits like claps, snares and kicks. Well all of my sound kits would load up except my Kicks. So I reformatted my MPC hard drive. I deleted the original kick folder and then made a new one. I tried a bunch of different things and nothing seemed to work.
Sometimes I use Sound Studio to edit samples. When you open up a file and try to re-save it, it will default to what the original file format is. SO.... I would open up a file named kick01.wav and it would actually be an .aif file.
Turns out I had 3 different aif file in my 64 kick sound set. Once I got rid of those, I was good to go.
Now here is the thing.... some of the sounds came from sound banks I downloaded from various blogs and stuff. This might be what is happening for some other people running into this problem.
That had been the only real problem I have had with the MPC. I was reading the regular manual it came with but I did buy the 2500 tutorial that was on this site and that helped a bunch. I still need to learn how to use the filters and effects to get a better sound out of the MPC but once I learned how to chop... I pretty much just went for it. I don't think the MPC has anything that Logic Pro or Reason doesn't have but I will admit that the workflow is a lot more immediate.
