Its easy to take it apart. Just pull all the knobs off and unscrew the screws underneath.
The main thing is to remove these 4 nuts under the Rotary Knobs and Wala!
Same Pads as the 2000. The MPD32 Gotta have the same pad setup.
Unkow how Wakai DOO. The recycle KINGS!

Im thinking doing the same with my MPC black pads and switching them to the MPD32.

So unscrew all the screws from the bottom?Looks like there 8 main screws on the borders of the MPD32 and like 6 in the middle.I guess Im lost where the 4 nuts are.Iv opened the MPD16 and the top just popped off and you could move the pads.

Any feedback would be nice,Thanks for posting those pics aswell.

Definitley not for the travelling laptop guy.

that's **** huge. Are you sure about those dimensions??
They aren't even published anywhere yet.

i went to my local guitar center and both the mpd 24 and mpd 32 were next to each other and those dimensions are right. The thing is bigger than the mpd 24 and the mpd 24 is already huge for someone who has to gig with a laptop.

Yeah you can unscrew all, although probably not needed. You will see what i'm talking about when its apart. Removing all screws below won't hurt. Start on the outside. ("there 8 main screws on the borders of the MPD32")The 4 nuts are located under the K knobs on the MPD 24. same as in the picture I posted. Just pull The K knob's off the 32 to check if its the same.

I got the MPD 32 also, and will write a review and a HOW-TO with Reason.

Thanks for the props! The pics you posted were taken by me quite a while ago!
After I found out how to open up that mpd24 I went and ordered some grey replacement pads from mpcstuff.com . I was so disappointed when they arrived because they were exactly the same ones. :x I thought I would get pads that are a little thicker and softer!!!
Where did you order your black pads from?It would be cool if you could post a pic of your mpd unit with the new set of pads.

Peace!

I did the same thing...the mpcstuff.com pads feel little pushier, though they don't pop out the MPD24 like they do the 2500...maybe it's the MPD's faceplate being thicker? If those black pads are thicker and pushier, I'd like to see a pic to confirm too before I re-order. Peace

Whats up DuhBeat and djlimbs! Dope pics DuhBeat. Many thanks. Y'all right! The pads are just cosmetic (for looks). The black pads are no different from the gray and sit the same way in the MPD 24. Like I said they just look cool. hahaha

v00d00ppl wrote:good luck with that. i work mostly in ableton live 7 so with all of their midi effects, i do more than just note repeat and rather than holding a button i can just route the note/sound to a midi effect. Enough with that, have u seen the homebrew application for the korg padkontrol? They are doing testing for a 16 step sequencer on it.

Word son! I was introduced to the AKAI world through an MPD24 back in June 2007. I had NEVER owned any kind of controller before and man, I could tell straightforward about the latency that thing had.

Moreover, half the knobs didn't worked, transport controls never worked on anything, the faders would only respond after they were moved about 2cm and the pads felt like concrete.

After almost 20 days I decided to sell that thing and cop a 2kxl. Oh man, now that was a damn wise decision. First thing I remember was the unbelievable difference in the pad feel and response...

AKAI should quit making midi controllers. Actually, AKAI should entirely quit this game. They're useless in making anything good anymore.

now does the mpd32 have the outo edit like the mpc has...for example id i wanna play a clap ona every other bar and i miss one by a lil will it put that clap on the bar like the mpc1000 does??????????????????
By MPZ60 Sun Sep 07, 2008 8:42 pm
The MPD 32 is strictly a MIDI Control Surface... No sounds or sequencer inside.. All editing is done in the software you are using with the MPD 32.. I.E. it has to be hooked up to a computer or hardware sampler ..

this thread is definitely useful.... master -ceo's tutorial was easy to follow when it came to gutting up the mpd.....now i can paint it and put black pads on.
