Here's a pretty bootleg way to get MIDI chord pads similar to the effect of those on the Korg M3

Create a new sequence for each chord that you want to play, they only need to be 1 bar long. Hit record, play a chord on your keyboard for the duration of the entire bar. Set the tempo to 30 so that the chord sustains for a long time

Repeat

After you have all your chords, enter the NEXT SEQ screen, and set it to IMMEDIATE playback

Press play and enjoy your chord pads

Of course this has *very* limited usage, but it may come in handy for something - especially if you had two MPCs or were playing with a band and sucked at keyboard

Interesting idea, but it seems to me like there must be a better way. Would this have been easier with the pad mode that has already been scrapped in version 1? I have always wanted to find a way to do this.

yeh, sample each chord to the pad, so they can be triggered at your disposal.

right, but this leaves you out of luck if you want to change patches on a MIDI device, or do real time modulation

the whole idea around this is for MIDI usage, not for samples (hence the title of the thread)

ideally it would be an OS2 feature, but for now this has some limited usage how I described (mostly just live performance or fiddling around testing out the sound of different patches)

In the past I emailed the JJ folks about implementing an intelligent MIDI-chord-pad mode, where you could just play a chord and the note values would be 'learned' and applied to any given pad. No telling whether or not this will be implemented though

Maybe I'm missing the point. But every pad can have four samples. Just layer different tones on each pad to make chords.

that would be a very nice feature

it would be good to have a few pads you can use as midi tools, like your example being able to assign multiple midi notes to a pad that can be triggered at any time, or turning midi notes off and just sending the aftertouch of a pad off to an external synth as a CC#

yup, no need to make it more complex than it needs to be
this'd be great, but would be twice as fantastic if there was an "offset" option for simult (notation=ticks) for creating more realistic sounding midi chords.

this would totally revive the usefulness of DRUM pgms for nonpercussive external MIDI modules.

As far as I'm concerned OS2 has it all pretty much covered sample-wise (other than crossfade loop and/or zero-crossing snap)

I'd really like to see more focus on MIDI features

this would be the greatest feature ever.. quite frankly i'm not really interested in OS2 unless this was included in it.

bit off topic, how low does the mpc transmit midi notes. I got a midified sh101 and no matter how much i try i cannot get to the lowest notes from the mpc's pads.

You mean like a chord hold. Would be very nice feature. I'm lucky to have it on my midi master keyboard.
