hwo do u uys start out a track do u work out the drums first or build the melody im having touble making a good combination of drums and the melody ?

practice until u find the way that works best for u. thats all I can tell u

i use the drums that are sold on this site and a $300 yamaha keyboard. its not much but its great to learn with and i made a few dope a$$ beats with wut i got.

I usually start with the melody but it s depends on the sounds. For me its easier to do it this way.

DO you have a turntable? Records are an infinate source of sounds. And most of the time cheaper and more satifying than kits that are already put together for you.

as far as making a beat switch it up, just get inspired and work from there.

if you find it easier to start with drums, you can still bang out a basic beat to hang some melodic elements on, then delete the drums and program a pattern that fits the other elements better.

switch it up though, cause every way you do can give you fresh ideas...if you take the same group of samples to make a beat and start with drums, and then make another one where you start with melody, you can end up with two completely different tunes.

Sounds like starting with the drums is the way to go

drums - any drums to start (you can always go back and replace)
loop - sampled from vinyl (then chopped or stretched)
bass line - loop sampled from vinyl or created with a nice synth
melody - sampled or created from a synth
lead - real vocals, sampled vocals, etc

then arrange the whole thing - you'll also need some sound effects and a theme - like an airplane coming in and out of your track with an explosion or glass shattering here and there
