I Need Help with my MPC60II

Yeah I', trippin, but well it sucks when somethin doesn't work. I'll keep an eye out for those. Here's a new angle. The drive can save and load data, but whenever I try to format the disc, It says there is no disc in drive.

Go to the MPC 60 Yahoogroup, in the file or photos section there is a picture on how to set your floppy jumpers. Try that.

I found out on my own, that I can just format the Disc on my PC. It seems to work for me for me great thusfar. I can still save and stuff, but no formatting, but whatever. My computer can format way faster anyway.

whoa, PC format works with the early 60 OS? That's crazy.

So Your jumpers are set like in the picture?

I couldn't find it in the formum, but I registered for it. That forums sweet too! Thanks. About the jumpers though; the guys at Route 66 said that they were set the MPC 60 already, so I shouldn't have to move em. But I'de still like to see that picture just to see. If you got a link to that or somephin that be coo. But yeah man, I just tried it for the ell of it, and bamm it worked. But I thought that all formating was, was erasing all the data on the disc to leave it with a clean slate. So check it, no more minute and a half formatin. WORD!!!!!

If that doesn't work, go to the photos section, it is picture 7 of 12.

Scatch that. Cause after I edit the sample and try to save it again, the MPC shuts down and restarts. Loosin all my work (Whack). Is that cause the disc aren't formatted or what?

The jumpers on the back of the drive look nothin like the ones in that picture. Those ones go up (verical). These go sideways (horizontal). And they only go to f, not g.

where did you get your floppy drive at? that is if its not an original drive?

i want to find somewhere else to order one since they want $135 bucks at VST or FORAT to replace the nonfunctional one... the drive is still good i think, just not with this OS upgrade...

did you have your 60 before the OS upgrade? did you have any problems after the OS upgrade? have you had many floppy problems yourself??

I know the prices are kinda high but I wouldn't trust anyone else. Its like getting your car serviced at the dealership....you pay more but you sleep better at night....

oh yea for sure... im just tryin to find a spot that i can order one so i can install myself!

My 60 came with 3.10, but I put the scsi in myself.

The floppy on mine is the one it came with when I bought it, but it says ASQ-1 reject or something on it in pencil, so it may have been replaced.

I have only had a few disks go bad in my floppy, so I got a cleaning disk and used that every month or so.

I would shell out the cash for the Forat floppy. It's guaranteed and a great move. Also, return the Route 66 floppy if you can. These thingsd arent easy to find (otherwise route 66 would have found a floppy that does work and sell that). Part of the cost of the floppy from forat or vst is their warehousing costs. They are the place to get what you need for your old Akai when no where else has what you need. That sounds like the situation here.

my 60 needs a backlight too so i might see whats up with doing both the floppy and the backlight at once at FORAT or VST...

ive been looking at the back posts on backlight replacement info and i found a few of your posts pretty informative. it sounds like you were satisfied with the white one you got at midi.rakete or whatever it was... i saw the pic on the yahoo 60 group also, looked great... i have a 60mkII though, im hoping they have a similar one to the one of the pic you posted that will fit the 60mkII... i cant tell though, the webpage is in german or some other language...

he has an english page too. Email him. the 60II has a different display, but the backlight can be in different colors.
