Who to know if a new black MPC will have the new pads ?

I have the chance to trade a older black MPC for a new one but only wanna do this to get the newer pads. So is there any way to know from the box/MPC itself if it has the newer pads without opening it up ?.

grab the grey rubber of one of the corner pads.

when you wiggle it around you should see the other pads nearest move with it.
if this happens, the pads are a single sheet, and thus the new pads.

if not, the old ones.

(some say you can tell by the serial codes... not too sure about that)
