A few beginner questions; please help

The most frustrating problem is when I record my drums and then play it back it gets played back differently. The rhythm is altered and just sounds messed up.

Another issues is regarding my set up. My mpc is hooked up to my mixer through the stereo outs and the line outs on the mixer. But is unable to record record samples in this set up as it doesn't pick up the signal. So I have to go through the record in's on the mpc and the master outs on the mixer. The problem with this is that the mpc doesn't output any sounds through this setup. So at the moment I am constantly switching the cables which gets very tedious. Would bypassing the mixer and hooking up the monitors to the stereo outs on the mpc do the trick in this setup?

Btw, I read the manual and tried the search. Any advice would be greatly apreciated thanks.

turn off timing correct. otherwise the MPC will...correct your timing.

Hey, what MPC do you have?

Yes, turn the timing off. Its probably on 1/8 note or something the default. Highlight and use the wheel to turn off. THis allows for free timing, but the timing feature is very useful.

As for getting the sound right, I admit it is annoying. The MPC can only play the master inputs when in sampling mode. Once out of sampling mode, you cannot hear anything besides the MPC. SO what I do is have the monitor connected to mixer, so I can always hear the records I want to sample. Then I use headphones on the MPC so I can hear the MPC.

Let us know your mixer, MPC type and we might be able to suggest a better setup.

I got a new mpc 1000 with a stanton 2 channel mixer. I figured that i would need to get a pair of headphones to make my life a little easier. I've been feelin out the different features of the mpc while I wait for my flash card to come in. Once I get that its on.

here's a signal flow diagram for a set that sounds similar to yours. yep, you're right - mpc stereo outs go into the monitors, not the dj mixer should solve your problems.
also the "thru" function on the mpc will probably be useful for you.
