Chrome MPC and electricity... Dangerous?

For background info my mpc is the 2000XL se3 (chrome)

Okay, so I rearranged my living room the other day and without thinking too much about it I put a carpet under the table where I keep my mp at. After a few hours of working I started to get small electric shocks every now and then from touching the mp, like really small shocks (the kind you can get sometimes from touching other people) but still it freaked me out. Took me a while to realize that it was the carpet under my feet that caused this.. Took out the carpet and everything's been fine since.

But that got me to thinking that what if it one day has a short circuit or whatever electrical problem (I don't know the correct terms), am I in a bigger risk of getting shocked because of the chrome cover?

it could be!! the static electricity could also fry the memmory simms in your mp!!!!!!!!!! so here what you do... you need to put a protective glaze or lacqure on the surface of your machine, so that you wont be touching the chrome directly. this should help. peace and love

Yeah I know, the simms are very fragile!!

But thanks for that protective lacquer tip, I've been thinking of painting my mpc so I have to check that out..


One thing I like about the chrome tho is the fact that it's so cool. Refreshing to lay hands on especially on a hot summer's day lol!

you will still have the chrome apperence with the glaze. i know the chrome look must be ill!!!! bang out dem hot beats cheech.

**** that, just make sure the MPC is plugged in a properly grounded socket. I have carpet under tha table my 60 is on and never get shocks.

Like the casinos when the stupid slots shock yo ass, anyone else know about this>????????????????

This is hard to do. I've used all kinds of products on metal (mostly gold and silver) for my work, but it's really hard to get nice results. The best i could find so far is Zaponlaquer, but it chips of really easy on sharp edges.
Your best bet would be to simply touch another grounded metal object right before you handle your mpc. This will discharge the static, and you should be save. People who install computer components do the same thing.

it's an add for Reporters Sans Frontieres, i scanned it from the paper.

The chasis of the mpc is grounded so your simms will be safe unless you take the cover off and physically touch them.

i turned it off, but for about five minutes it was still plugged in at the mains which was still on. so i turn off the plug and unplugged it and when i touched one of the pins i got electrocuted slightly.

didn't hurt as much as a static shock but was longer, like half a second, and it felt like my finger was stuck to the pin.

I keep my mp on a table and I have a rug in my room, I've never had a problem. If you are really worried about it get one of those rubber or plastic mats that people put their computer chairs on, and stand your table on it.

Don't you just love that tingly feeling an electrical shock gives you It let's you know you're alive. I'm an Electrician by trade and I've been hit a few times. That shyt will definately get your attention. low current dc really hurts though. I caught it from a 24v dc source(on a navy ship with a real ungrounded system) on my pinky and couldn't straighten it out for like 3 1/2 hours.

Just to add...
It's best to use a three prong electrical power cord when the MPC is plugged up. It keeps the unit grounded.
