Here's an mpc 2000(XL) tip on how to get a BPM read out

Haha.. i had an idea that's what you were shocked about. It can go either way though if you're good with the swing timing u never have to turn your quant off and you can still have that live feel. It's up to the individual though.. holla back

i got a simple trick for you.. when messing with a shaker or even a closed hat (any repetitive percussion sound... leave the quant on and take the full level off so that the pad you're hitting is pressure sensored.. select the quant you want and hold the tape note repeat pad. Lighten up on it the sample pad.. push down on it harder.. even let it go a couple times.. doing this will give u a real live feel, but still in perfect timing.
There is a major producer from harlem who had heard one of my tracks..(he wasn't major then) uhhh.. a very very long time ago..lol.. he had asked how i made the closed highhats and the shakers sound like that. I told my cousins to tell him the same trick i told you. I'm not saying i'm the reason he's major, but i guess it added on to what he was already doing and now he's doing the damned thing. go figure he on my myspace page..lmaoo

Thats an old "Trick" that most people learn when they first start learning about how drums should sound. But still robotic if you ask me. Ill just stick with no quantise on certain sounds
