Today I witnessed something about the pad layering setup, which I don't like so much. The thing is, if you layer sounds on a Pad and return to the GPE and then want to change the volume for that pad as a whole, you can not use the 'LEVL' setting, because that only changes the volume for the Sound on the first Layer. Therefore you have to use the 'OUT' Setting instead, which is located at the end of the GPE.

It would be cool, if that could be somehow optimized in terms of workflow...

yeah, PGM lvl = top layer in fact, all GPE stuff = top layer stuff.
maybe a modifier key to seize the param for all layers is in order
would definitely be a more elegant method.

yeah , say hold down "NUMERIC" and scroll up/down between the 3 layer increments.

wouldn't it be better to have GPE affect all layers by default, and the modifier key would be used to select individual layers?

hmmmm yessir i think you might be right, that does make a lot more sense.

but unfortunately we're probably treading touchy water
it'd get changed and a bundle of people on one side of the fence won't like it as much. which is probably why i defaulted to think to keep it as much the same as possible.

a 'whole' function when you are in layer-view would be enough for me. like it was in gpe in os1. plus jj could get rid of the redicilous 'close' button... :)

while i do agree that from the beginning, GPE should've change the params on all layers simultaneously, CommanderRobot, your solution is the most likely to be implemented (and would be quite handy, too, just like it was in os1).

bah. fukc em'. they'll make some noise & then get used to it after a day or two. it makes the most sense to make the OS strongest for the long run, as opposed to making it a little less than it could be just to avoid upsetting a few people in the short term.

think of this OS being around for years. over time more people will purchase it and get to know it by the new setting (affect all layers by default) as opposed to the few people who got used to it the other way in the early days. i see the OS as still being in a state of change, so ya gotta be prepared for that.

hello, while were on this subject , there's something i find annoying about GPE

having to select the pad i want for every window -
shouldn't it be that you select the pad you want in [sample] then when you go to amp etc ... it's already selected, instead of having to cursor key to it ?

also when your on the output/FX page ,why do you always have to cursor down to the pad you want, and then it jumps to the mixer setting first. would it not be best for it to go to the level ... as you will most likely want want to change the other settings first?
again really the cursor should already have selected the pad you are working on from the other pages.

i tend to get round all of this by hitting the window key - then you can jump from screen to screen.
it's not ideal but it works - and keeps the workflow going.

doe's anyone else find this irritating?
