Zip Disk Problem

Okay so ive had my MPC 2000XL for about five years and i never had any problems with my disks. But now all of a sudden im having disk read errors on certain samples on my disk. My cousin uses my MP from time to time and said that he had the same problem from my MP but only with certain samples. I dont think that its the disks because im able to transfer the sounds on to the pc as a backup...should i look into getting a new drive or what?

If the disks read okay on the zip drive attached to your PC, your SCSI zip drive is probably going bad.

okay so heres an update. I weent to one of my partners studios yesterday...he has the same MPC2000XL with internal zip drive just like me. I loaded my zips on his MP and everything loaded fine. So i know for sure that its my internal drive..is there a way to fix the problem (cleaning etc.) or should i just purchase a new drive?

Just buy another drive. Once a zip drive starts acting up, they generally only get worse. Since you have the MPC2000XL, you can use either a SCSI internal zip or an ATAPI internal zip. ATAPI zip drives are plentiful on eBay and sell quite cheaply.

I just got my new internl zip today that i bought from a computer store on EBAY!! I installed and every one of my disk loads fine. With the exception that when the MPC is powered on it sits at a wait screen for about 45 seconds....and then detects memory...sequences load slower thn before. Is this because the newly installed zip has to be recognized a few times....and what should i do if this problem continues???

I guess I should mention that the drive that I purchased is IOMEGA...

Ditch the zipdrive and get a card reader. Buy an usb zipdrive and transfer all your data from your old zip disks to the harddisk of your computer or copy it to cf cards. Zipdrives (especially internal ones) are too unreliable IMO.

I definitley considered this.....the only problem is some of my disk are MPC formated and won't read in the PC...this might pose a problem ...how would I get the data from these disks, to the cf card reader?????

Ask your partner to copy the contents of those disks to a PC formatted zip disk.

I'm having a similar problem but different in the way that My XL is not detecting my external zip drive at all. only the Floppy and Flash Drives .. I got the drive from my mentor who is actually getting out of the game...(sadly)...the scsi cable he gave was frayed and wires were exposed so I thought the cable had gone bad. I ordered a new cable and its still not working. At this point would you say its the zip drive...Help

if its an external drive, then it has to be a zip plus in oreder to work with the MPC...they have a little switch on the back that makes it detecable.

You blew your SCSI Fuse it needs to be replaced.
