I am using the JJ OS

I sample from a record, trim the sample to be in timing, hit chop, then F2 to convert it to sliced samples, and choose to create new program.

But for some reason once I do that, when I try to record over a drum beat, the new samples cut off anything I have recorded even in overdub mode.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Matt

The new program will be set to Mono play mode. Change it to poly if you want to play more than one chop at the same time.

yeh that 1 got me for a second too, i always play my chops in note off mode, give me more controll over durations. but for me its a must to have PGM set to poly.

I will try the suggestions but just to clarify...each of the chopped samples cuts off the drum beat that I have already layed down

are the drum samples in the same program as the vinyl samples? you should put them in a separate program.

hmm...i was just trying to play everything on the same track of the same program of the same sequence...

the answer has been explained within this thread: set your program to poly if you want the sounds to overlap. Mono if you want them to cut each other off.
The program poly or mono is in the top right hand corner of the program screen.
Also try creating a seperate program for your drums and one for your samples, and record them both on seperate tracks.

Thanks man, really helpful!
There is one more question though..... There is another thing in program called Voice overlap: Poly or Mono. This is NOT placed in the upper right corner. It is placed in the middle of the screen above "Mute group". Whats does this do since we already have Poly / Mono config in right above corner? Little bit confusing...

Also, what is the "typical" config for this when you wanna play your chops over your drums! Is it to have poly or mono, etc?

Really appreciate your patients.

BTW, i am using JJOS 4,99...

the other poly/mono is for setting individual pads to overlap other specific pads, for example, if you want pad 1 to cut off pad 2 but want say pad 3 to cut off pad 1. I will work with this example to explain the process: go to that voice/poly screen you mentioned. Now hit pad 1. Cursor across to mute target, and scroll through till it reads pad A2. Now hit pad 3. Cursor across to mute target and scroll through to pad A1. Making sense?
Oh by the way you need to have the entire program set to poly(the one in the top right hand corner) in order to do this.

Your question about chops and drums and a typical config is really all up to personal preference. I personally create a program for my samples, and usually set the whole program to mono. My drum programs are always set to poly, thats if they're all individual drums. If i have a break chopped up into bits though, i'll create a program for that and set that program to mono.
But theres lots of different styles, you could set your sample program to poly if you want and have some overlap and some cut others off, or set certain pads to note on and others not or whatever.

Hope thats cleared it up a bit for you
