What to Look for When Buying a MPC 3000

Hi I am going to go visit somebody who is selling an MPC 3000 in the next few days.

I was wondering what problems/telltale signs you guys suggest I look for, What kind of tests to run on the MPC to make sure everything is in working order.

So many of us have but MPCs, especially the older ones, and found them to be in poor working order... so i thought this could be a valuable thread to people like me looking to buy a used MPC 3000.

I have dealt with the MPC 4000 in the past, not extensively, but somewhat so I feel like I may be approacdhing a totally different beast.

Anyway any tests/ actions people would run to test the machine in different ways according to your experiance of what could go wrong would be GREATLY appreciated. The more detail the better for a newbie thanks allot!!!

What OS it got 3.11 atleast, 3.50 is a bonus.
Look if the floppy still works - put in an empty floppy press DISK, 9(copy, format, other), 3(format disk).
Check if the "data entry" wheel is working and all buttons.
If you want to know when the machine was built look at the serialnumber at the back, the first 4 digits is year and week(mine is "C9845" - 1998 week 45).
If the OS crash when in use somethings wrong, a MPC3000 NEVER EVER crash !

I have purchased more MPC than I care to remember (somewhere around 9 or 10) and except for the one that was supposed to be broken have never had a issue.
If I were you and was concerned with the unit working or having issues I would just buy one from a used gear dealer since they stand behind stuff and give you a checkout period.
Even Sam Ash or GC will give you a check out period.
Old gear is just that old it is always one button push away from failure, it just depends on if that button push happens in your possession of the sellers possession.

Example seller checks unit out sells it, then ships it and the power supply fails or in your case you get there and it's acting funny and they say but it was working fine.
To you it would seem like they tried to put one over on you but it could have actually just started having the problem.

A dealer can take away a lot of headache.
