HD freeze?!?

K, I've been using this 2500 and hd for like a year and a half. A few months ago I go to save my ish and the damn thing freezes. I wasn't really tripping though, because that never happened again...At least not until yesterday. When I went to save entire memory to my hd last night and it froze. I wasnt too upset, but I was kinda worried because this was the second time this happened, and had I liked the project I was working on I would have been really pissed off. Btw, I know that the 2500 is known for freezing when you create a new folder, but I had already created the folder - it was when I went to save is when it froze.

So I got back on the mpc today and guess what? the damn thing froze when I went to save. Now considering the fact that I've had this mpc for a year and a half, it's only frozen three times in its lifetime, and two of those times where within the past two days, I think its safe to say there's a problem. Anyone know what might have triggered the freeze, or what i can do to make this problem go away? Perhaps a new OS is in order, I think I'm still running 1.22. As far as my hd goes, I dont think it was the one supported by akai, but that shouldnt really matter because the shit worked for year and a half with absolutely no problems

Yeah, so if anybody has any (hopefully cheap) solutions to all of this, I'd greatly appreciate it. One

First of all update your OS to 1.23 - then back up your HD! Then reformat.

Hook up via USB and do a scan for errors form your PC/Mac.

If the problem continues, the easiest way is to get a new HD - it's not that expensive...

Yo, I updated to OS 1.23. Almost a week later and there hasn't been any freezing, and my mpc is running smoother than ever. Just wanted to say thanks for the info, yall

I really think its time that manufacturers did away with shortening phrases ........ I mean, c'mon, it is obviously way too confusing for a large segment of the MPC society to comprehend the term 'up date'.

If only they worded it 'up to date' instead of 'up date', maybe more of the blunter instruments might cotton on to the notion that its something that is just maybe necessary ?

Supposedly, we've all registered our equipment so why can't AKAI E-mail the details of their er update?
Firmware correction? And I little "sorry" to show they care about upsetting customers.

I know its an old topic but, I waited a year before updating to the jjOS and when i did i only wished i had done it sooner. The akai OS i had was full of bugs.

My guess is that maybe 1% (if any) of customers actually register their product. But that's one thing I would expect from such a thing...

^Yep. I never registered, but I had known about the 1.23 OS within less than a week of its release. The reason I didn't "update" sooner is because I hadn't experienced any problems with 1.22 at the time, and knowing akai is notorious for buggy technology I decided to hold off on the new OS. But all is good now, and I'm so comfortable with the akai OS that I'm in no rush to update to JJ. Call me lazy, but I really dont feel like learning a new os
