ive played with it, it's not my cup of tea, and while it's not really a big deal, id like to clear up the startup splash screen. is there anyway to uninstall OS2?

When OS 2 is loaded, it shows a message:

[tap tempo] --> power on. Loads OS 1

yeah, how do i get rid of that?

you think im not using it? man, i run two 1000's at once. one blue and one black. dont get presumptuous on me, now. ;)

and, um, NO, i wont be reinstalling the akai os. i'll just deal with the extra 2.2 seconds of load time.

hahah there's a good man
you should run 1 mpc on os2, and the other on os1!!!!

edit: the more i think about that the better idea it seems to be.
it'd both get you more enthusiastic with 2 (which i think will happen - most folks start off iffy and end up thrilled) and it'll give you best of both worlds.

the second filter, and velocity parameter in main screen, are the only advantages of os1 over os2 imo...

but when jj put that dope ass main-to-grid in one click... with the delete and overdub so quick to access right there...well, i said a difficult farewell to 'vel', and a had a weepy parting with the second filter for my hi hats ...and moved on :)

that was the plan, but honestly i just wasnt as blown away by os2 as i really wanted to be. the pattern screen is not something i really need, as i mostly play/rec programs live. same with the inst. program- i just dont really need to be able to make fully chromatic sampled instruments, its easier for me to tweak a few pads to give me the notes i need for a given song than to set up a whole instrument.

the adsr seems cool, but id rather have all that velocity routing capability, since like i said, i tend to play programs live. although, crossfading layers and aftertouch routing are very tempting.

overall, it seems like os2 is leaning more towards evolving synth pads and instruments than drum/ one shot programming, which is what i count on the mpc for. i would really like some of the new interface features, like the track softkey and the one button midi grid access, on os1. its too bad jj's "done" with os1...

althought, all things being equal, if os2 had direct recording, i would sit down and shut up. ecstatically.

yo i also don't use pad pattern because my numerical button is missing
and my inst pgms are certainly not my most used feature of os2. they are cumbersome to make, definitely not something i want to STOP in the middle of a project and build. instead i just build em ahead of time and use them as presets.

instead, to me the selling point stems largely from the dozens of small changes every which way in existing places, like midi grid edit, GPE, etc. sooo many workflow improvements over the already fast os1, it's like CAUTION WET FLOOR

likewise, every single sample on my MPC at all times is a oneshot, so i feel you there. i mean EVERY sample. and that's precisely why i find ADSR control absolutely 100% invaluable.

regarding velocity control, i was really upset when velocity/start point and velocity/attack were taken away. to me, those were integral to drum programming, in order to create very slight differences between samples. early on, this caused me to have qualms about os2. however, in the time since, i've come up with solutions that are more controllable and elegant than they were before using simult layers, velocity switching + velocity scaling resulting in smooth transitions between multiple samples with different attacks/start points based on velocity.

this in addition to ADSR has no joke doubled my control over drum oneshots and resulted in a much more realistic performance. for the most part, i gravitate toward realism, too, every single time - to me nothing beats an acoustic drumset as a base for any further development/layering.

that's why i'd have to say that os2 (for me) is definitely not for evolving synth pads or instruments, really - in part because that's not what i do. i suppose if that was what i was aiming for, it'd help, but to me the polyphony limit really kills that potential, especially if you're still working with drums too, you'll max that sh!t in no time.

instead os2 has improved the possibilities in my oneshot programming. as far as an outright fully featured SAMPLER goes, it's way closer than any MPC other than the 4000.

i'm not trying to convince you, it's just an interesting subject and i just got carried away on the keyboard while at work haha

do what you do and keep an eye on 2's development.

and it will dog, trust me on that.... cuz i thought the same thing until i really started fuggin with it. and man the workflow and sample control.... dont sleep on the asdr... specially when it comes to drums.... sampled drums and other instruments...

dont sleep.

ill be posting some new beats from os2 soon yall
