Insufficient Memory

NOOB QUESTION (I got my mpc a day ago):

I was sampling Tom Brock's 'The Love We Share Is The Greatest' on to my mpc 1000 because that is the sample Toomp (ATL 4 life) used to make the beat for the song Say Hello off of Jay-Z's American Gangster and I wanted to mess around with it because I have just gotten my mpc and I thought that it would be a fun sample to mess with.

So I recorded and chopped it into 16 pieces but when I tried to create the program it said I have insufficient memory. Now I am not such a Noob that I dont know what that would mean, my question is this, Does this mean that I need to expend my measly 16mb of ram or do I need a larger CF card? I would think it means that I need to expand my ram, but I was wondering maybe my 128mb CF card is too small (I know, I am going to get a bigger one). So what I am asking is do I have an insufficient amount of ram or a tiny CF card. I am planning to get 128mb of ram and a 2.0GB CF card. I am asking this because I dont know how the mpc works when it comes to saving shit, I assumed that everything you did would get stored in the ram and once you decide to save it the the mpc would then write to the CF card but maybe it isnt like that. I know you guys can help me out. I know I could have researched and then found the answer somewhere but that is time consuming and the people on this forum seem nice enough to tolerate this dumb question, and also I hate reading manuals.

Why do people hate that?! It's the best way to educate yourself about your gear. If you have problems falling asleep at night, that'll help and it's not wasted time either....

Im not an idiot I only sampled about 15 seconds of the song, I didnt sample the whole thing. I also have been reading the manual, which by the way is written for the old OS and I have the 2.11, I wasn't exectly serious about the manual thing, I have been reading it, its just not that helpful with what I need to know.

Get some more RAM, I just won some for £6 on ebay.

Check the RAM thread with the sticky on it.

Its not expensive and you'll prob end up buying it the future anyway.

Im yet to receive mine but I had the same problem with "Insufficient Memory" the day I bought mine (last week) and started samping into it. So for now I studying the "beat making on the MPC1000" ebook (which is great and well worth the money)

Also its not gonna hurt to have a bigger card but I opted for a hard drive.

would you buy a car and not learn to drive?

why the **** would you buy a piece of music production material and not learn how to use it!!!!!!!!

yeah it takes time, but the manual`s for the mpc and also the online mpc tutor guides you can get are the best!!

just thank yourself lucky you don`t have any of the roland vs studio`s to learn!!! the manuals for those are too much!!!

pull ya finger owt mate and `READ YA MANUAL` or just try figure it out yourself, but you`ll get no respect or anywhere with your production if u don`t learn the basics.

Nobody is is understanding what I am saying, and nobody answered my question. What I meant by saying that I hate reading manuals is that I would rather spend my time making music on my mpc than reading countless manuals and watching lots of YouTube tutorials. I am reading my manuals and watching the videos and I know the basics, its just that I would rather spend my time actually on the mpc making music instead of spending countless hours reading and watching videos. Why does everybody think that because I dont want to read the manuals that I'm not going to do it?

People need to stop being dicks, especially if you aren't going to answer the fu*king question, I warned you that it was a noob question, give me a break.

Read my first post, it tells you that I have 16mb of RAM. I know how much RAM I have.

I think I read somewhere that 16mb of RAM can sample up to 136 seconds, if I can't get 15 seconds then naturally I am going to assume that something is wrong.

If that's the only thing you have in memory, yes. Like Lampdog said, check how much RAM you really have free in the lower right corner of the Load screen.
