ASR 10 Rack for sure!!! Unless you don't have an MPC or other drum machine.

Yeah, I would go with the rack as long as you have a decent controller.

But the asr 10 rack can only upgrade to 16 megs ram! What makes it so more worth it when compared to the ASRX Pro? And what does the PRO version of the ASR X have that the straight version doesn't?

The ASR-X PRO is a COMPLETELY different machine!!!!! The one thing they share is the FX though. The FX on bith units are great. The sequencer on the ASR-X Pro is TERRIBLE. The ASR-10 and the ASR-X have different sounds to them. You can add a sound ROM card to the ASR-X. The Urban Dance card is amazing! You are really comparing apples and oranges. The old ASR-X (the black box) only had maximum 33 MB of RAM...the ASR-X pro (the red one) had max 66MB. The differences are very minimal. The other thing about the ASR-X units....the parameter select knobs on the front are really bad. If you buy a used one, most likely the knobs will be terrible.

But i probably wont even use the ASR for the sequencer, so sonically speaking would the ASRXPRO sound better?

I'd go with the ASR-10, I think it sounds better. Usually they cost a little bit more than the ASR-X though.

i dont get the purpose of have 2 sequencer/samplers midied up, what do u use as the sequencer,im asuming the mpc to sequence and the asr for sampples since it has the keys,but u can do that with an mpc and a midi keyboard and jus have the samples in the mpc...?

That is very true, but different samplers have their own distinct sound not to mention the effects that come with various samplers like the ASR for instance. The MPC does not come with onboard effects like the ASR so when you put them together the sound is dope. It also depends heavily on personal preference. I look at it like this too, why spend $250 on a nice midi controller keyboard when you can cop an ASR for around $500 to $700 (depending on the options) that serves the same purpose and the potential for much much more. Just my opinion though.

the 2oooxl sounds like shit compared to the asr10. when you see producers with the 2 in their line up along with an ASR or Triton, the 2 is usually just used for sequencing..

I just want to hook up my MPC2000xl and my ASR10 together, I know I have to hook it up midi in and midi out but after that is where I get lost. What exactly do I have to do to the MPC and the ASR? I want the MPC to be my sequencer and the ASR to handle the sampling. Drop knowledge on a brother, peace.

I own an ASR-10, ASR-X Pro, and an MPC 2000XL...So here's my opinion:
ASR-X Pro advantages: Built in expandable sounds, more sample memory, EZ learning curve, compatiblity with ASR-10/EPS libraries, WAV/AIFF compatibilty, and portablity.
ASR-10 advantages: Better sample editing (the main reason I still have mine), solid build (I've had it for 11 years and only had to replace the motherboard once).
I would go for the ASR-X Pro only because they're cheaper (check ebay), smaller, has built in sounds (the "Urban Dance Project" expansion is hot), and has better compatibility.
