MPC 3000?

XL's are so cheap now that there is no point in buying a MPC2000. I jsut got a Limited Edition XL for $550 off Craigslist.

Good call, that is true. Not always there though, but if you can find one for that price, like under $600, then jump on it!!! Even if you resort back to Fruity Loops. I know that $550 or $600 is still more than the market on a 2000, which you can probably find (if you look and wait well) for @$300. Of course, most 2000 have screen lines, a slider or pad that is done, or something like that. I hope you see the light though, my point is, don't overspend on a 2000XL, you may not like it. Pointing and clicking might tickle your fancy (not me). But, if I had to guess, you will like the 2000, sell it for a profit to one of your up and coming protege's to be, and upgrade to either the 2000XL or the 2500. Don't worry, the 2000 and 2000XL are the same, as far as HOW TO USE IT. For a first step, I would still advise you to LOOK FOR A MPC 2000, for as cheap as possible. It is you easiest entry into OUR WORLD, and it is a good investment if you want to leave. No one will make you stay!!! Now, if you have the extra bucks, take the same investment/entrance strategy to your search of the MPC 2000XL like my good man did, just make sure you don't spend more than $650-$700 cuz then somebodies trying to hustle your ignorant (no dis) azz. Check Craigslist.com in other cities, like NYC, LA, CHI, and ATL (big markets) to get a real deal BLOCK/BLACK MARKET value. Alot of chumps want to resell gear THEY BOUGHT FROM guitar center. Just cuz you got sold, don't keep the price high!!!!lol
I like to buy my gear nice and hot, or at least from motivated sellers. Keep your money in your pocket, no hurry to spend to much. These 2000's and XL's are not new, they ain't going now where--------

I think your analogy is a little off!
to say that the MPC 3000 isn't practical as an everyday driver is crazy! That machine became legendary because of it's ease of use, tight sequencing and good sound. Now theres no debating that MPC's over the years have gotten even easier to use and even more practical in terms of file handling and workflow, so that seasoned producers can get work done even faster and more efficiently. But to compare the 3k to a old Chevy that "isn't practical as an everyday driver" is just off base. Those early designs gave birth to the MPC of today and it's philosophy is the basis of why the newer MPC's are getting "better". And when your on a 3k, (or any machine for that matter.) daily, you learn to think like one and create a workflow based on your machines confines and your personal style and taste.

I hear what your saying, but as a proud owner of both a 67 buick riviera with a 430, and an mpc 2000, I didn't mean that they were obsolete. But, your not gonna get heated seats, xm radio, and the new car shit in an old school. Yea, I would want to pay for gas, but an MPC 3000 is still valid. Me personally, I would not buy another MPC without more than one drum program per sequence, which makes the 2000 and 3000 (and maybe 1000 too) not an option for me because of limitations. I have a hard time believing that $1000-$1200 is better spent on an MPC 3000 than $500-$600 bucks on an XL, or even around $1100-$1300 for a 2500. Now, if it was your decision, which one would you buy TODAY with YOUR MONEY?? Didn't mean to make the 3K look bad, cuz it is clearly the beast and the best in its era/time. But, answer the above

A classic car gets a hefty price because its a classic, so does the MPC 3000. Any arguements?? Not saying its worthless, just saying some of the price goes to the "rare classic" concept. Hey, theres no right or wrong when its YOUR money, just don't spend my money on a drum-machine/collector's item. FEEEEL MEEEEEE YET??????

Basically if your sayin that the MPC 3000 is a less practical purchase, I'd have to whole heartedly agree. Because as your stating it could cost you more and "do" less. believe me, I fell ya! It's just the "every day driver" analogy had me twisted, and didn't sound like a fair comparison.

P.S. a mpc 1000 has 24 programs at a time stock and 99 if you upgrade with the JJ OS...

Really? So an mpc1000 can access 24 drum programs per sequence with the JJ, is there an upgrade for the 2000, or even 2000XL that will take them higher than 1 per and 4 per? And what about the 2500?? What are the stock and other options with programs per sequence? I am really leaning on flipping the 2500 in the next month or so, I have a 2000 and have used the 2000XL both extensively. Now its my turn to spend some $$ so its either 2500 or 2000XL. I think some one can use the 3000 as the every day, for me it would take extreme patience with the above shit because I hate to re-create, organize, and consolidate too many drum programs on my zips. They don't work half the time, so I need every adv I can get. Holla back--

I'd go with the 1000 first choice the the 2000XL second choice> the newer models are way faster and the older models have more wear and tear on them<<PEACE

I dont understand these people saying you shouldnt get an alder machine because of 'limited features'
thats not a proper method of deciding which gear to buy
think first about what you want to do as an artist
then think about how much money you're willing to spend
you seem to know that you want an MPC, so you're getting there
if you have a chance to, go to a music shop and play around with the MPCs they have on the floor
you can usually find the 2oooXL, 25oo, 1ooo, and 5ooo models in Sam Ash or Guitar Center on display
its not easy to tell which one you're gonna be comfortable with right off
but you have to be willing to spend time figuring it out
now features may be what you want
if so then I'd recommend getting a 2ooo/2oooXL or a 1ooo if you're on a limited budget
but honestly the build on those are not as good as they are on the 6o and 3ooo
I own a 3ooo LE currently and I dont see a need to switch
anything the newer MPCs can do I can do with my 3ooo because Im so comfortable with it
so understand that the machine you pick will be something that you're gonna be on a lot
and its your money not ours

I completely agree with your post!!
I used the 60, 60II, 3000, 2500, 2000 and 2000xl myself for a period of time and had my hands on the 4000 and the 500
After a period of time you start to see the mpc more as an musical instrument as simply an elctronical device so you choose the one you feel the most comfortable with and not the one with the most features.
(that's why I listed the 60 and 2000 apart from them successors as they are diff. inst. to me)
Some of new feaures of MPC's are half assed anyway IMO or don't do anything I couldn't do in my daw resulting in better results and quality.

well put! decide what features and prices match what you're looking for and no doubt you will be mastering your machine. and you could sound better than any producer using whatever your weapon of choice. i've heard great beats on the new mpcs/old mpcs and i've heard really terrible beats on both old and new mpcs. you understand your machine - you understand your sky's limits. and on any machine - the beauty of the mpc - is the sky's limit is limitless! honestly, i can see myself dropping atomic bombs with a 500. no joke!
