well this machine has been sitting in my house for the past couple of weeks but im only back in the country so its only now that im actually getting my hands on it (when i say now i mean yesterday).
so far it's really nice. my previous sampler was the Boss SP-303 so this is a big step up. never used software samplers or anything and my limited experience with production was mainly with synth loops that i used to over-dub and record straight to tape. while the SP303 was very easy to use (imagine a tape deck with pads, real simple) and although ive made some nice beats on it i wanted to step up to a more-feature packed sampler. i'll be totally honest. after reading the online manuals for both the 500 and the 1000 i was originally going to get the 500 because i didn't think id need the extra features but i thought id just cop the 1000 anyway.
just have a few questions.
ive spent the last couple of hours trying to delete the internal memory. can't do it. read the manual and there is nothing there. i turned off auto-load so now i start with nothing straight away. it's just a niggle but im wondering can it be done (really im wondering if im out of my depth and am unable to perform such a simple task).
secondly i took the unit apart and i have the new pads which is cool but im also experiencing some double-hits when im playing. like if i hit a pad sometimes it sounds twice very fast. anybody know whats up with that?
finally im wondering about the JJOS. i know this site is a great resource for all things JJ related but for somebody like me who has no experience with MPC or any of its terminology should i just go with the akai OS first.
i mean its handy to have the manual right there in front of me and everything. i don't know any of the functions (after im done with this post im gonna head upstairs and see if i can get around to putting my chopped samples onto the pads). i installed the free JJOS because i heard that it is the same as the akaiOS but has just fixed bugs and improved only a couple of functions. im scared if i download the JJOS2 my manual would be useless and i would be totally lost. at the minute im at home so can't access the free manual for JJOS that is here (im running on dial-up at the moment and loading that thing causes my comp to crash) but i will try at the weekend at maybe an internet cafe. im just wondering how many functions are changed in the JJOS from the akai and will it be really hard to learn without instructions. to make my point clearer, after downloading the free JJOS i read the manual on the jj site. it said something about mute group function changed but i had no idea what mute groups were or anything (sorry for being an MPC noob). see im just worried that the JJOS has changed so many functions that i will be unable to learn the machine.
anyway hope i made sense in that post. hopefully somebody can answer my questions, especially regarding JJOS.
