alright,

say i got a nice sample of a string and i want to construct a simle sequenced riff with it .

at the moment i just set it to 16 levels and use the pads but is it possible to play that 1 sample through my midi keyboard and have the full scale of the keyboard as notes or is this not possible?

i suppose the keyboard would need to be a sampler too to be able to do this or is it possible?

just it`d be great to be able to play with one pad sample in this way...

cheers,
E

just incase that confused anyone basically i want to be able to play a sample that is asigned to one of my pads through my midi keyboard but each key on the keyboard representing the sample in that key.

**** me that sounds even more complicated, think u know what i mean though...

Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

But you can use different programs in one sequence. Make one program with strings assigned to pads and another with drums etc.

When you want to play strings, select a sequence track with the string program selected.

JJ OS will do this automatically.

It can be done manually though.

16 levels doesn't work with your keyboard because 16-levels is an internal function of the MPC that is using the 'TUNE' setting. 16 levels doesn't have anything to do with MIDI I don't think.

To set it up to work you'll first want to get the MIDI note order of the pads in a chromatic order. JJ will do this automatically but it can also be done manually. Then you have to assign the sample to it's original key on the keyboard/pads and use the TUNE function to pitch it up and down from there

Basically you will have a program where the same sample is assigned to every pad, only with the TUNE setting pitched up or down depending on how far you are from the original key

nice one mate, i can see myself turnin to jjos soon am just waiting till my warenty runs out as i bought it from new .
thats pretty much what i`d figured was just wondering if there was a quicker way of doing it.

i`ll have a mess about. i know i can do it through using a pc but i try and steer clear of using computers in my music production.

cheers for the feedback bro

no it does mate, it just takes loads of settin up but u only get to play the keys that are assingne to pads, was after a way of using the keyboard like the `16 note` button on mpc, but since the keyboard isn`t part of the sample and midi is only note on /off or prog change this doesn`t seem possible.

but cheers for your imput mate, much appreciated,
peace out

I think we've misunderstood each other. If you want a sound on more keys of your keyboard, you'll have to assign it to more pads on the MPC. But your question was:

lazyE wrote:i want to be able to play a sample that is assigned to one of my pads through my midi keyboard but each key on the keyboard representing the sample in that key.

I interpreted that as 'can I play the sound assigned to only one pad, on all keys of my keyboard and in the right tuning too'

And that doesn't work that way. But sorry if I misunderstood you.

The 16 levels -> tune mode is not playable by an external midi keyboard.

An external midi keyboard can only trigger the sample that is assigned to the note in the program. You can somewhat simulate the 16 levels -> tune mode using either the q-link -> tune or pitch bend, this isn't really what it sounds like you want to do.

Instead, you'll need to create a new program that has the sample assigned to every pad in the bank, and then adjust the tune chromatically. In JJOS v1 and v2 this is quite a simple task, but if you're running the Akai OS I'm afraid you're in for a bit of work to do this by hand.

Another thought is that you could self sample the 16 levels -> tune, and then chop that into a new program. Kind of a goofy way to go about it, but it might suit your needs.

ok, you don't need JJ Os to do that, You have to make a program with all the tones you want spread across the pads then reference the midi note #'s to keyboard, on MPC set your format from drum to Midi and you should be able to trigger the pads. Will take some time but I do it all the time.
