mac q?

sorry in further for asking this Q here for it's only about MPC but i'm about to by a laptop and i wonder why are the mac's the first choice of all producers?what are the adventeges to the pc's.!thanks to all of you!peace

PC is a lot faster/powerful for cheaper price....but something like a G4 ibook is real nice to work with and pretty solid little laptop. I have had a G3 ibook for over 1 year now and it has been one of the best buys I have made IMHO.

It's historical IMHO - Macs had music software like Logic before the PC sequencer scene took off.

Graphics had a lot to do with it, Windows only made sense for a GUI after Windows 95. The other thing was hardware, some vendors supported Mac only, but I know people who swore by SADiE on the PC. I think Cakewalk deserves a lot of credit for doing serious sequencers on the PC, and Sonar is still my preferred Windows sequencer.

(No, I haven't forgotten the Atari ST, but does anyone remember UMI on the BBC Micro? That was real "old school", literally - the BBC Micro was designed for classrooms.)

thank you for the information,gays.i was short on the explanations about what i'm gonna use it for ,so i need it for storing(CF are damn expansive),slicing(in recycle,maybe) and as sound source,but hardly as sequencer because the MPCs seq is rocksolid and that was one of the reasons to get it.but having in mind that the computer is a multifunctional device and the center of the most electronic systems(and i'm thinking of bilding a home studio) i just want to get the most stabile,portable and flexible mashine out there.

I have a MAC I used to have a PC - they pretty much do the same thing

The MAC is like belonging to a very snotty nose country club and all your kids go to private school and you drive a Passat and watch Friends

The PC is like "I play the public course because it's cheaper and better, I send my kids to public schools because I'm saving money for their college and I still drive my '95 Subaru 'cause it works...oh yeah I HATE FREINDS!"

but again they serve the same purpose - Logic however is MAC only (I'm so sure, like, Friends is on tonight and my Bi-Friend from Starbucks is having a Fire Art show at the Art walk in Fremont - can you drive, my Taurag is in the shop, again!"

Adonis,you are like the talisman of this cite being so humorous every time anyway i think i made my mind allready and i'll go for PC.money is object and i'm obviously not one of the"club" still driving my good old kadet .

okay.. owning a mac has nothing to do with being stuck up or any BS like that.. yea.. pricey ... but that doesnt mean ish..

the bottom line being.. macs are stable.. some PC setups are notriously not stable.. if you know what your doing you can run your pc just as stable as an OSX setup..however.. thats all it really boils down to.. personally i love my mac.. no problems no crashes.. hense.. no data loss=) cant complain.. get what you can afford..learn it well.. and make the best of it.. dont get something just cause everyone else uses it..doesnt necessarily mean its good..could just mean everyones pretty pigheaded and not looking towards other options..

I too am a Mac owner, and i orginally switched b/c i decided to take my production seriously. I have yet to be in a studio and see a PC setup...for us "basement" producers i say go with whatever your comfortable with and can afford

However if u seriously plan on doin music you should consider the switch ..its kinda the same reason why i bought protools and the digi 001. It's the industry standard and i wanted to make sure i had all that stuff at my finger tips so i wouldnt have to waste money going to a studio.

But nowadays with the exception of a few things most things are mac/pc compatible...but still i have yet to be in a studio with a PC setup so i stay away from pc's

Not to mention macs are more stable at running these mac/pc compatible programs (PT, and other DAW's). I would say it's a matter of preference, but honestly i dont think it is..Mac's are more geared towards music/graphic design than PC'S are...but do wats right for u and ur economic bracket 1st and foremeost

Eh?

Logic was PC and Mac wayyy before it when Mac only - which wasnt until version 6 (the current version).

I own a Mac and a PC - and for me its the OS that makes a MAC what they are.

Looks like we have the same setup and motivation. I'm still on OS9 and PT 5.2.1 and it's rock solid, on a G4-800.

When you have the time and $ you should upgrade to OS X - WOW - problem is you have to upgrade all your programs which might cost a dollar or two but you can get the MAC upgrade on www.ebay.com for about $20 - $30 and ina couple weeks Digidesign is dropping the price on the PT upgrade to 6.x to $35

I can't even look at OS 9 without thinking, "God, that is like so OLD! I'm so sure!"
