Why do I need to STRIKE my pads so hard?

its almost uncomfortable.

can i change that by purchasing new pads?

When I had Akai OS, I changed the pressusre u had to apply to get the highest sound possible, but that didnt do much.

Maybe the JJ OS 2 lets you hit them even softer for that max volume?

yeh the 1000 pads are appauling, if youve come from the earlier models. I just kissed velocity goodbye and use full level, and tweak my vels settings in the step editor.

the pad upgrade is said to be good, i havent experienced it myself. but its a **** rip off, akai should be doing it for free. i lost all faith in akai and cannot believe its $180 for a **** fix to a problem they shipped out.

the answer is in the question. you need the pad fix and if i remember well you have more control of the velocity in os2 than os1 (setting pressure). In my opinion, what is cool is the threshold level, you can set it low and have a progressive velocity response. I remember in akai OS hitting a pad very slightly and getting no velocity (not even 1).

i just found it so bad, i use the 2000xl to trigger the mpc1000's sounds. cant go wrong.

might as well - os2 has a revamped pad sensitivity screen that lets you tease out better performance for your pads.



you can set your PAD ON threshold, ie the "floor" voltage needed to trigger a note.
very good for fine tuning.

yeh ive played with all that jazz, i guess breaking them in a little bit more will help cause there still stiff little kunts, but by the time that happens i'm sure they would have already failed..
Although I think i'm being a bit dramactic, No amount of adjusting the sensitivity is going to bring them near my 2000XL pads. You just can't polish a turd in my opinion. Im sort of comparing apples and oranges too here. but fuk it, i hate to see the good name of akai get dragged thru the mud with the inferior sh1t there releasing these days.

Nym havent you upgraded your pads? im talking bout the ones shipped before the BK-N model.

sorry i had to expose u to my rant guys. just felt i had to get that off my chest, but i did purchase the unit whilst knowing the pads were sh1t, so how can i argue that point.

huge difference. it's the real thing as opposed to the halfassed sensors that came with the original mpc1000.

The new pads are really good, although i understand you not wanting to give akai more money... i see it as money you need to spend to make your machine work properly (unfortunate as it seems, and as gullible as it makes us look!).
They are way more responsive to subtle velocities than the old pads and not as prone to double triggering as other mpc's ive used. Why have an mpc if you cant use it properly...sell it to me for not very much and i'll put the new pads in haha!

The new pads I just installed have made me go ohhhhhh that's what its all about feeling (after only ever owned the 1000), it is just chalk and cheese, and I prefer cheese. Very nice for gliding fingers across to get super nice bass melodies going, before notes would not play, no feeling. Looking at the old sensor board it seeems like a good idea, a pity they never quite did all the r and D on it, probably sacked too many engineers. Amazingly the new pads are actually cheaper here in Australia which is the contrary to most things music/electric orientated. The whole crux of this machine is the pads and sensitivity and feeling. I thought JJ OS was a big step but truely the new pads have made this into a new machine, so for everyone with the old pads do yourself a favour and get the upgrade, I know it kills me to fork out the $129 for something they should have fixed post warranty, but ah well.... and yes I have not encountered any double hits with the new pads, I remember that was a problem with mine from new.

okay, a bit of info: I purchased my MPC1000 about a month ago from guitar center. It's black.

Does that mean I have the "New"/good pads?
or do the good pads not come with the machine?

If I don't have the new pads (which I'm hoping I don't because my pads suck), where can I purchase them from?

VST and MPC Stuff say they are on backorder (the pad upgrade). VST is supposed to be calling when they have some in stock (I won't hold my breath). Akai totally ignored my email about the manufacturing of the pad upgrade. I doubt they will produce a lot more because that would mean they won't be able to get the "2 for 1", where people who bought the MPC 1Ks would have to buy a new MPC 1K once the their first MPC's pads stopped functioning properly. I almost have no choice because my MPC is virtually useless to me. Someone that needs a MPC may be able to deal with it, but equipment workarounds destroy my workflow and kills my creativity, it's extremely annoying!

hey this might be out of your league, but remember Rendr - he found out that you can literally plug the cable from an MPD16 into the mpc1000 pad "receiver"

i just bought a used mpd16 for 50 bucks (HAH!) for that very purpose - so i don't have to wait on akai, and so i DONT have to give them money they don't deserve for selling a broken product

Yeah that is my fourth option (buy a new MPC, wait for pads, wait for LinnDrum II) to buy a MPD 32 and because I can do without the MPC sequencer (here we go again with the "workarounds") if I have to. But.... if I buy the MPD I would be missing my biggest objective "do not reward Akai monetarily for screwing me out of a great machine the first go 'round". I compare it to making up with a female by buying gifts (not as personal though), it will only make her feel like she can do it again and get away with it. But in this case the innocent person (the consumer) is giving the wrongdoer a "gift". I don't know what I am gonna do, everyday I feel different. I have a strong feeling it's gonna end up on Ebay though.

Oh yea..... Nym when you say "receiver" do you mean the MIDI In or the actual section where the pads sensor plug into the board? If that were the case, wouldn't that look goofy? I like the idea because I could get an MPD second hand and hopefully the seller won't take the money and turn it into an Akai product? I'm trying to stop thinking about
