Getting an MPC or MPD?

What up?! I'm new here and basically I registered cause I need a lil help. I've been working on a PC for years and feel pretty comfortable with it, but let's say that I got tired of drawing the drums in the sequencer or hitting the keys on my midi keybord to get my drumtracks programmed. That's why I decided to get the MPD 24 and just when I wanted to get one, I found out that Akai put out the MPD 32. So I thought about getting one, but from what I read on the internet, it seemed like it would be better to add up some money and buy an MPC instead of 400$ midi controller which seems that has pads which can't be compared to the MPC pads, plus I get the sound which shouldn't be overlooked. That would require a bigger budget, but that's ok... If I get the MPC, I intend to use it only as a sampler. I'm not trying to diss its sequencing capabilities, but I'm pretty much used to doing that in Cubase and doing it on a big screen. My friend uses 4000 as a sampler, along with the PC. I tried it a few times, but seems maybe little too complicated and would be way too expensive for something that I'd use just as a sampler, so I definitely wouldn't need anything that big as 4000 or 5000. I'd like to know if anyone could suggest what would be the best in my case, 1000, 2000xl, 3000, MPD 16, MPD 32? Thank you!

i think the best in your case would be mpd 32 beause it has the best pads out of all the mpds. has not feature function and if you really dont want to use the mpc as a sampler there you go

I would like to use it as a sampler, to load my sounds from it, but not for sequencing. I thought that maybe it'd be better to add some more money and get better pads and something that's gonna give at least better sound if it wouldn't be that much money...If I already decided to get some piece of hardware, I'd rather take something real right away than something that I'll use for some amount of time to find out that I should've taken something more specific...

if i were you id get a 1000 or a 500. its dope to have the mpc as a sampler if your using your computer as your sequencder, you can just load the sounds in the mpc and have them there when you load up your program, instead of having to program like 500 million midi notes into an mpd or whatever. i might be exaggerating a little bit about the note programming, but i like to use my mpc 500 as the sampler and my daw (logic as the sequencer and i just love how i can load up the notes on the mpc and i dont have to worry about the notes getting moved around or messed with, like if they were on my computer.

you just load the program from your mpc and all your old samples are in all the rite places.

Yeah, that's exactly what I had in mind! But the only thing about the 500 and 1000, they seem a lil bit toyish and I heard that their pads aren't any better than the MPD pads and that it's best to take the 1000 and change the original pads. That's what's buggin me. At the other hand, I definitely wouldn't need anything big as 4000, 5000 or 2500... Now it seems as if I want to hear, yeah, go and get the 3000.

the new manufactured mpc 1000s have the upgraded pads so you dont need to worry about that part and trust its no toy definetly dont have to worry about this machine reachin your standards

mpd 24 and 32 have mpc 2500 style pads...plus mpd32 got built-in note repeat

for hybrid setup mpd32 and ableton live would make a good combinaton.

otherwise reissue of black mpc1000 with pad upgrade will do you good too

Ok, thanks! And since I could get 2000/2000 xl or 3000 for the price of 1000, which you think would be better? As far as I'm concerned, the older models have better convertors, but weaker software specifications, so should I go for the sound if I'll only use it as a sampler or would weaker memory and stuff present an issue in that case compared to 1000?

2000 xl is a classic and somesay would be one of the best sounding mpc (not quality wise) but hip hop wise but then again memory space and jjos is lookin prity sexy thease days

IMO...

If you just want MPC sampling / pads and can do without knobs & sliders, go for the 2000.
You can pick one up for around the same as buying the MPD32 new. I don't' like the sound as much on these but they will do the damn thang...

If you think your going to want a more upgrade-ability and more advanced sample, (synthesis) engine, get the 1000 w/ JJ o.s.2. This to me is the all around best buy, especially for the MPC beginner & they sound good.

If you feel like your leaning towards a 3000 then I would suggest trying one out first, (I know, easier said then done!).
I personally think they sound better, but that issue is the subject of much debate. The 3000 is also an "old school" sampler and will not have many of the modern conveniences like waveform draw or even normalize. Be sure to take those things into consideration, especially if your coming from a PC production background / setup. Also download the manual and study up on this piece a bit before committing to it. Now, having said all that, I like the 3000!

Thanx for the replies! The guy who had 3000 sold it, so I won't be gettin it. I think I wouldn't even consider getting it if he didn't have it. Right now it seems I'm more 1000 oriented. I've been making beats for more than 6 years now, but I've been unsatisfied with my workflow for a serious amount of time now and since it started **** up my inspiration I decided to try and get some things simplified.
