Direct Record?

you're right, i didn't think about it before (mainly because i have other samples and audio tracks that i didn't want to be purged with).
I dunno how the delete and purge function really works. I have noticed that samples which are not purged are still saved when doing save entire memory. it seems that audio tracks are purged while deleted. I didn't try to purge them so i can't tell. Maybe delete and purge functions needs a little improvment.

I used to have a Yamaha RS7000 and it had a sampling option which was, as I recall, called Sample+Note. Plug in your bass / keyboard, etc, play along then have whatever you played perfectly sampled and sequenced upon playback; the RS automatically inserted a sequencer trigger note at your punch in point. Would love to see this feature on the MPC1000.

Is that feature really missing now? And in which versions of the JJ OS? This is the feature that i am craving for on my MPC2KXL, and the reason why i probably wanna switch to the 1K.
I need to record stuff in to my MPC while its playing already.

you can record a sample while the sequence is playing on any 1000/2500.
The 1000 JJos has audio tracks. JJ and Akai OS for 2500 have audio tracks, but The JJ audio tracks are little different to the akai ones. The akai "direct record" inserts a midi note depending on where you started recording.
It'd would be cool if JJ os incorporated the midi note input approach as well.

i don't really like the midi note thing. used it a couple times while exploring the Akai 2500 os and it seemed pretty wack, no offense to those who dig it, just my own feeling

for such long samples to be triggered by a midi note is irritating as hell because if you start it from just 1 tick later the sample doesn't play. this is not the case with audio tracks, which play at all time and are not midi triggered.

direct record is one of the reasons why i got the 2500. it's very frustrating that it's not implemented in the JJ OS because audio tracks are useless to me.

and Nym, it seems that you made up your mind too quick about direct record. in case you weren't aware, the Akai OS for the 2500 can begin samples even if the sequence is started after the midi note. you just make the track a continuous sample track. the only down side is that you can only assign 1 continuous sample track.
