does anyone here redo songs over that use a sample say "1-900-hustler" - jay-z produced by bink im doing it over on my mp just forfun using the original sample and my own drums . i know i should be making my own beats but i think this is a nice lil form of practice. I would like to know if anyone does the same ?

yeah i often do stuff i have no hope to clear...purely as you say for practice...

ive been working on a mix for a while 'the mpcs vs the mpsc' which is basically a load of blantant beats and mashups...none of which i could ever hope to clear but a bit of like bit like '2 many dj's'

oh there's also a perchant in underground house to mash up rap and rnb vocals over grimey house beats which ive done a bit of...again i wouldn't try and sell any of them....if your gonna sample a well known tune make sure you do something fantastic with it...

i re made "oh boy". that cam'ron joint that just blaze did. one day i went out, bought a bunch of vinyl without listening and within those 10 records, there were like 4-5 samples that jay z has rocked. it was wierd.

I used to remake "Rebel without a Pause" and "She Keeps on Passing Me By" when I first started out. I still plan to redo those "It Takes Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back" beats just for fun

For now I'm too into experimenting with my own formula and breaks

If you have remixes with samples you could never clear, you can still think about pressing dubs for DJ's or even small runs of vinyl. I don't think it is worth it for anyone to sue you over a white label or a small vinyl pressing. Half of the jungle records I spin have uncleared reggae acapella's in them...
