usb zip drive

ive had my mpc2k classic for about 2 weeks now and i have just bought a usb zip drive to back up all the files from my beats. the problem i am having is that i tried to copy the files from the disk onto my computer and it wouldn't let me copy all of them. in the mpc i named the original sample 'the witch', then i named the zones i chopped out of it the witch1, the witch2, the witch3 etc. when i tried to copy these to the computer it has renamed all of them 'the witch' and will only let me copy one of the files. do i need some sort of file converter or am i doing something wrong.

Remember that the computer will only see the first 8 characters of the MPC filename, so any names longer will be chopped down to 8. This is why they are all showing up as "thewitch" (8 chars). Anytime you plan to be copying files from your MPC media to a PC, be sure to use the old DOS standard 8.3 file naming convention.

Go back and rename them on the MPC observing the 8.3 standard and then you will be able to copy them to you PC drive.

Hi, I am having a simmilar probelem. I have just installed an internal ZIP in my MPC and got ridd of the floppy drive but I am having the same problems transfering floppy disks to my pc or zip drive, is there any other way round??

If you have stuff on a floppy that you want to save to the zip drive in your MPC, just load it in and save it out to the zip drive. You can do this more easily with a PC running Translator (drag-and-drop) but you'd need to have a floppy drive built into the PC, not a USB floppy. Cheers for that, I had a quick look at that before but was a bit pricey. I managed to re-name the samples in the MPC for the few good tracks I had so that is all sorted, but some of the sample floppies are still not all on the zips.
