Hmmm... I have a 2000 Classic. I always liked chopping on it. Can't beat shuttle wheels. That's the only good thing Classics have that XLs don't. That's why I get pissed when I see someone post a thread on how to install the shuttle on the XL. It's like... leave the one good thing we have the **** alone. Just stick to your zone chopping and easy MCD install.

i like recycle .. cause its real easy to master and get a perfect chop in no time at all
i use it alot espically to export chops .. i always finalize my final chops in adobe audition
for eq,compression,whatever. it has a few downsides but for the most part its an invaluable
tool. IMHO

I used Recycle exclusively for chopping until I got an MPC 9 months ago.

Speaking for myself I found it pretty good (I'd give it B grade I was testing it).

I'm not aware of any hot keys but this has never bothered me so much.
As for entering the number of bars, if you only want to grab single hits then does the bar value really matter (i.e any value > 1 will be okay).

Also...you must admit the .rex format is damn useful with EXS24/Kontact etc.

Mostly I like it because it does a specific job well (chops). If you don't like the auto detect you can use your own divide and conquer technique so you can be flexi able.

My only complaint would be that you have to covert your files to wavs before using Recycle. It would be awesome if you could

1) Record snippets as waves or as a poor substitute
2) If it had an mp3 converter in built


In any case, if I was as fluent in the MPC as you are I wouldn't be bothering with Recycle.

I've had some good results from FL Studio's built-in slicer - prior to that (and my 1k) I would have used Live, primarily because I didn't have Recycle and I'd become so fast and familiar with Live. Definitely not the right tool for the job, but as I was doing just about everything in Live it was convenient to do slicing in there, too...

But yeah, Fruity Slicer, I like that.

mr. nym, have you demoed the ableton version 7 drumracks/slicer, if you think phatmatick would do you right for sample mangling then you have a nirvana of mangling waiting for you in the Live drumrack slicer.
I didn't really bat an eye too much at the first 6 versions of Live, but the drumrack slicer in version 7 would kill if it was just an app by itself not to mention it's in side ableton Live, imho it is simply a must have piece of kit.
