Loading samples without turntable..?

Hey, sorry if I sound stupid, i'm new to the MPC (I have a 2000xl) and I have no idea how to do a lot of things.

So I have an mp3 of a song, and I want to extract about 20 seconds of it. I did that using Audacity, and I saved it as a WAV. I tried to load it from my compact flash card the same way I load drum sounds (don't know if this is the right way.) When I press "do it", it says "not enough memory." My card is 1 gig too..

How do I load long samples without a turntable? I would like to take it off of my flash card and chop it up onto the 16 pads.

you gotta get the "record" stereojack input pluged to a mixer or something like that..

the you can record by the mixer, and it doesn't matter what device it is, as long as it is connected to that mixer!

check how much on board ram your machine has..it doesn't concern your flash card.

It sounds like it may be 2mb which may not allow sampling for that length of time

try this.
hold shift then press sample 4. then open window and it will tell you how much ram u have..

also u need a mixer as stated above then u could hook up, ipod, cdj, deck...

also get a hold of the manual and read. cause all this is in there.

Sounds like you have saved it as a small mp3 clip. Edit your samples in audacity and save as... *****.wav

Use mpc edit to layout your banks or just open the wav from your compact flash. Keep it short and sweet and you should have the memory to do it.
