Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

The MPC500 is a great machine. I had a lot of fun using it for the past few days, but I had second thoughts. I thought about selling it just because the loading/saving bugs make it unusable – you just can’t rely on it. I see that a lot of people put it out for sale and I guess they’re disappointed. It really hurts to lose a good beat.

Then I thought that someone needs to fix this really quick and if it’s not Akai then who? Yes, you know who. JJ. Some say it will never happen, but what I say is that he needs motivation. And what motivates people the most? I think it’s cash. So…

How much would you pay JJ for a MPC500 OS?

I would say 70 bucks just to get that saving/loading bug fixed.

Just write how much you’ll willing to pay and after a few weeks we’ll count the cash and then send an email to JJ!

I'd pay nothing. If I were you: I'd be more cautious and backup my important MPC data on a regular basis to my computer HD and then to CD or DVD; I'd read the manual on what to do before unplugging the USB cable from my computer; I'd use verified CF cards, formatted by MPC; finally, I'd update MPC OS to the latest version 1.13...

1.Caution – check
2.backup my important MPC data – check
3.read the manual on what to do before unplugging the USB – I use a mac, it doesn’t let me pull the plug cuz it gives a BIG error message – check
4.verified CF cards, formatted by MPC – check
5.MPC OS 1.13 – check
6.I don’t seek advice nor help – check

Just for the record, i was only joking about JJ! I don't have the time nor the money to decompile the software and rewrite it. It would take a looong time (and be illegal)! I hope the someone is fixing this lovely peace of equipment for us!

Ok. Not at all :) I suppose, that if it were all checked, you wouldn't have any problems. Something's got unchecked in the process.

I know you were joking, and I hope you understood my joke too ;) – you know, humor tends to be different around the world.
I really hope that Akai is fixing the OS, but at the same time I’m afraid they don’t treat the saving/loading issue as a bug. They have omitted it twice so they might leave that out again. Let’s hope they’re fixing everything else.

Maybe i don’t take enough caution ;) I’m sure I’ve checked everything. I checked everything twice and still no luck. Just to straight things out – it doesn’t happen all the time – it’s a random issue.

unfortunately this bug is in the software, not the user.
occurs(ed) in the 500, 1000, 2500

It happens when MPC damages data on saving (or loading, who knows for sure?). More often it's a sequence. And it's the sequence that people loose, actually, because of this bug. Somehow it haven't yet happened to me (I use only the CF card that came in the box, never formatted it or anything, and backup everything on a regular basis). And I hope, it will never happen to me. But if it does, I have reserve copies ready. So, maybe, people need to be more cautious when it comes to important data and shouldn't blame MPC or Akaipro for loosing their precious beats?
