New or used? Where to buy?

I'm looking to buy a MPC-1000 and need some advice on what's best. New or used? Can anyone suggest a better deal? The shop will need to ship to Australia.

buy second hand. ebay etc then get the pad fix if the one you get needs it. you'll save a lot of money.

i got one on ebay that is useless and mocks me daily while i wait on perpetually back-ordered pads. be advised the wait for pads may be loonng.

Just splash the cash and buy a new one, then you'll be certain what your buying and you can break her in yourself

Yeah, I really think I should go with a new one. I may be in NYC at some point, is there a recommended store where I can pick one up new (and guaranteed to have the new pads) for a decent price?

I got mine on ebay and saved a bunch of dough...make sure its legit if you do though.

ebay worked great for me saved loot . my friend got beat, if you got the loot buy new. safe

I got a S950 once from Ebay and it was ment to be mint condition, when i received the S950 the disk drive was busted and so was the screen. Bottom line...Ebay take ABSOLUTELY no responsibility when you get scammed....so if you can arrange to pick the item up in person i would so you can fully test the item before you hand over that cash.

That's a good point...picking it up in person if you can would not only save you shipping costs, but you'd get to see the machine before you pay. If you're not able to pick it up locally, make sure they post a pic (and send you extras if you want) of the actual unit you're bidding on. Don't place a bid on an mpc auction that just shows the stock pic from the Akai website...if they're legit, they should have no problem sending you some pics.

If you cannot pick up the MPC locally ask the seller to take some pics of the MPC switched on. Also if the MPC has a hard drive or extra RAM installed get them to snap a photo of a OS page displaying those features. I know its sounds like something your mom would tell you but trust me when you are sending $700+ to a total stranger its worth the piece of mind.

I recently purchased a MPC 1000 for a mate on Ebay and the seller wanted to charge me $15 in petrol money to drive the MPC to the post office on top of postage, my point Ebay has some shady characters so protect yourself.
