Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Just one thing "wrong" : the pads are not organize the same way than on the mpc, it's the exact opposit actually.
(pad 1 on the top left, pad 12 on the bottom right).

Good Deal...
one question though...

Are you able to preview the parameter changes from the computer? (i.e. Env, Tune, Vol, etc.)

Quick update:
waveform view works
add/delete/move markers from list
export markers to midi file at selectable PPQ works,
tap tempo works
export slices or all slices to wave files works
library/preview functions work

Working on:
audio engine
exporting/importing pgm files (anyone know of a resource with mpc500 format as opposed to mpc1000 format?)
auto chop function
chromatic assign and explode functions

Answer to question above, no you will not be able to preview changes on the pc. This is because implementing that feature would mean emulating the mpc sound engine. Over time I may add some small features which make life easier in that respect, maybe eventually a full mpc emulation, but dont hold your breath just now!

I can now import and export pgm files to the mpc500. Upon inspection of the files in a hex editor it turns out that the mpc500 just uses the mpc1000 file format, even down to the format identifier "MPC1000 v1.00". It will be very easy for me to modify this program if mpc1000 users are interested as well.

that would be sick if u do it. i've been looking for something like that for when i'm on the road. it would only be a matter of a tablet pc with an mpk49 and bang away
hope u get to do do it one day man
keep it up
good job

So, is the idea of the settings being in your editor for the sake of "rough guesstimates"?
Another question, if the samples have a loop point applied to them will this editor leave them undisturbed?

BTW, great work so far (ur damn fast widdit!), and thanks for makin it cross platform.
Yes I'm sure MPC 1000 users will love you for this!
Have you check out some of the previous MPC editors for Ideas?

I am basing this upon a cross between recycle and bluebox. I cant run mpc 127 because I dont have a mac, which is very annoying, hence making this cross platform (I will need some mac guys to help test!). The idea is to speed up chopping and creating chromatically assigned programs, because making them is tedious on the menus.

Ive just thought of a sick new feature! How about a section where you hit a button and the program sends out the midi signals required to solo tracks and play them in sequence to extract all tracks from the mpc as audio tracks, for easy exporting to a PC DAW (since it doesnt have multiple outputs). It would take quite a while but it would take out the repetitive work from mixing a track no?

That, is a superb idea mate -and you can put me down as a 'mac guy' to help test...
